For the factory set up, correct, wires are there but not used. As I'm sure you gathered from Bitsyncmaster's post, he can supply you with a relay if you have hot start problems.

I found a picture online so I could put the cover back on in the correct orientation not that it really matters probably.
Some superglue from the hardware store did the trick.

I can't express how convenient this hardware store is. I have become good friends with the owner and it is a short walk from the shop.

Before going home after work Tam and I discussed what is left to be done on the car. I'm leaving at noon time tomorrow to go visit my parents 4 hours away. So we won't get anything done on the car until next week. Then next week is pretty busy. We knew this would happen once we got into warmer weather. It is frustrating to think that we may not have the car on the road this summer.
I took the old BMW for the first ride of the year and headed home to pack for my visit.

I spent Friday night and Saturday visiting family up in Northern Maine. Picked some fiddle heads while up there and fed the black flies my blood.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9ed6fcb67e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f377b889e0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9eb0468a21.jpg

Tam and I worked on the car for around 8 hours today.
I started inside the car. I carefully cut the tape off from the damaged (chewed) wiring. It wasn't as bad as it looked. Only two wires were down to the copper wire and one of them was a ground wire.

Probably going to be some hater out there disagreeing with how I repaired the wires. I think it was the best way to go without turning this into another project.

I sprayed the plug connectors with the fancy electrical cleaner stuff I bought. I felt like it didn't do anything but make a mess. Oh well.

Same thing for all of the fuses

Next I plugged all the church connectors into the bulkhead plate. This was way more of a pain than I thought it would be. I seems like they made no effort to make the wiring the correct lengths for these connectors. Some connectors wires end up being banjo string tight and others have slack.

Next in connected the ground and positive lugs through the bulkhead.

I really hate how the wiring is situated from the factory.

Next up installing new bulkhead gaskets. We used the old gaskets to mark where the new ones will go.

I decided to punch an extra hole in the gasket.

The new coil didn't have a male connector on the negative side. So we took the one off the old coil and cleaned it.

We have a modern style vacuum solenoid so I had to do some wiring to make it adapt. I cringed as I cut the connector off from my brand new $500 D-Ind harness.
I made an educated guess on which wire connects to which. It is just a solenoid coil so I don't think it matters.
