What have you done to your DeLorean today?

I liked the yellow zinc plating. Here it is installed, on the negative post as recommended. Just tighten the green knob to turn the battery on, and loosen it to disconnect. You can also remove the knob as a measure of antitheft security.

I have had one very similar to that on my car for just about the entire 10 years I've owned it. The knob is red on the one I have. It was a DMCX product way back when. I don't see it on their website at the moment though.

I found getting it onto the negative terminal (as mentioned in the instructions and as you noted) a pain in the butt because of the battery compartment on our cars. It's manageable to get it installed on the negative terminal, but it wasn't very easily reachable when you went to use it to disconnect the battery. That'd be ok in a planned situation, but not so much if you had an electrical fire perhaps and needed it off ASAP.

I have had mine installed on the positive terminal because of that the whole time. I've never had any issues with it there and it's easier to access. No electrical fires to speak of thankfully though either. Just wanted to mention that as I was concerned initially as to whether it would be okay to install it on the positive terminal (and against the directions it came with).

I don't see any reason to have it mounted on the ground as opposed to the positive post.

I have a cut off switch nearly identical to the one you installed in these photos and I have it on the positive terminal. As mentioned earlier, in an electrical fire getting to it quickly and easily is the most important thing.

I found a picture of mine installed:

Attachment 53836

I can reach it from the driver's seat. I often put the knob, once removed, in the coin tray until ready for take-off again.

(I think the knob on mine is black... not sure why I thought it was red.)

Thanks for the comments and pictures guys. It's good to see that the battery disconnect switch is a tried and true design! I'll have to consider putting it on the positive post then, as it would certainly be easier to reach, especially in an emergency as noted.

Cheers,

Still waiting for DPI to ship my AC lines....

---

Called up Josh at DPI and found out my lines have just been shipped via USPS. I also went to DMCH today, and Crystal had my order ready for pickup while they are still technically closed for inventory. :D

Also, got this Chinese bad boy in today...

But at a price over $100 lower than DMCH, I'm not complaining.

The DMCEU one from PJ Grady was $60 cheaper and comes with stainless hardware and bushings. It's also got the proper mounting points as well.

So are these the wheels that John describes as silver? or do you have some custom finish?

Mine look almost exactly like this, except the knob is green. I have used it for almost 10 years now. And I must have a backwards battery, as the negative terminal is closest to the front, and so easiest to reach from the drivers seat, and so that is the post I have it on.

The wheel is powder coated with a bit or metallic in it then it is machined on the outer part of the turbine and rim lip.

Yeah, those wheels sure are sharp. I guess what I'm asking is if I wanted the wheels you have, would I need to custom order that finish with John or is that just the way they come if you order silver finish?

Today I went on a 100+ mile trip! Was going to add my antenna etc but decided to go on a drive instead. Flawless drive. Great day!

I had the car out last night for another beauty drive. The weather here has been unseasonably warm for October. I'm coming up on 2,000 miles this season and that'll be about the 2nd or 3rd most in a year since I got it. Which was exactly ten years ago today.

Here is 3937 on the day it arrived, October 10th, 2007:

And here it is last night, closing the book on my first decade of ownership:

Attachment 53912

The car came with a list of problems as long as my arm. Now there's hardly anything on that list at all. A gas station guy came over and said how immaculate the car is and he was really impressed with it. I think I am finally too.

Drove it to the racetrack and back last weekend
for a work-related race. It got pretty filthy from all that driving, about 200 miles so I Cleaned it up today.

Also I think I may have fixed the one loose rocker on the passenger side after taking off the valve cover and doing another valve adjustment. Now it's time to pull the engine harness apart and do some wire rerouting in preparation for my new exhaust system.

Congrats Jonathan!

1. Recovered and installed the T piece of my headliner.
2. Removed window and installed a bolt and washer on front track.
3. Reinstalled the door panel assemblies.
4. Tested window and door lock operation with my door switches.
5. Adjusted my front hood hinges downward.
6. Adjusted my driver's door torsion bar. (Was sagging since I last adjusted it with the door panels off.)

Going to drive the car tomorrow while Houston has its one cool day. When I receive and install DPI's AC hose set, I'll probably begin driving it more often.

Thanks a lot Dana!

Got my order from DeLorean-go today. Aside from the needed clutch kit, I got the binnacle flex PCB, the screw in otterstat pipe and one of the new window switch connectors.

Now I will look for a higher temp otterstat switch so it will serve as my backup on my electronic otterstat. The switch that came with the pipe is a 92-87 C unit.

Got my new-to-me motor:

Should be cleaned up now :)

Decided to make a new center console plate out of acrylic.
Attachment 53984

I used a corvette shift boot to finish the look, and I have two cup holders on the way that will be mounted behind the screws.

I did have one hell of a time getting the boot situated so I can shift to park. I really didn't think about clearance until installation...

I removed my gas tank, cleaned it out and replaced all of the hoses on the coolant pipes with better hoses from NAPA. The criminal that sold me the car claimed his idiot mechanics cleaned it out. I removed a huge handful of rust chunks, a nut, and a washer. It should be good now.

Worked on my LS4 motor:

300-325 at the wheels would be nice.

It can. Between upgrading some internals, and how exaggerated the UN1's fragility is, I have no worries.

Didn't John decide on our transmission because it was from Renaults racing division?

Oh no, if you go to his site, DeLoreanAutoParts.com you can get the full powdercoat finish or this, no special order needed. [emoji3] He will send you the wheels and give you a bit to get them swapped over and not charge a core fee. I thing i paid around $900 with shipping and everything.

What are the notable configuration differences in the LS4 vs what Jonathan and Nick used?

My son is 8 and he LOVES this car! He's always out helping me wipe it off and changing the oil and he always likes to get my creeper and crawl under the car to wipe off the exhaust. I'm glad he really likes this car because I got to leave it to somebody when I get too old to drive so I've been teaching him a lot of things about it so he can learn for when he's old enough to drive!
