You can test the otterstat with an ohm meter and the otterstat in hot water. Should close (go to zero ohms) at the marked temp and open (go to infinity) at the second marked temp.

Fans and otterstat works. Did not start until the gauge said 240 degrees. Measured cooling hose on the top of the engine under the intake to be around 90 degrees celsius which is around 194 degrees farenheit.

A lot of owners have problems with the accuracy of the temp gauge. I'm guessing the sender was replaced with one not specified for our car.
