We lined up the transmission as best we could and started trying to mate the transmission to the engine. I was never able to get the input shaft on the transmission to rotate by spinning the output flanges with the transmission in gear so instead we put a socket on the crank and spun that instead. Eventually we got it together and torqued the bolts down. 35 ft-lbs I think it was. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...49bda1da8d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a1e9d996d1.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...805bab4cd1.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...de1ce4707c.jpg

After that we called it a night and set the engine and transmission off out if the way for the night. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...07289437ab.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f6f2b84013.jpg

Today I realized that we skipped a step. It was highly recommend to me that we put gear lube in the transmission, stand the transmission up on the bell housing, leave it for an hour more and see if the input shaft seal leaks. Totally forgot to do this.
I picked up 80W-90 and some DOT4 brake fluid at Napa. The lady at the counter asked if I had a job name or PO and I said "Delorean". Well as you can guess that started quite a conversation. She was a nice lady and it was a fun conversation as I showed her some pictures on my phone. I have the Samsung Z-Fold and pictures is where it really shines.
I got back to the shop and started filling the transmission with fluid. I forgot how much I hate filling a transmission or a diff. with squeeze bottles of heavy weight fluid. It's like torture. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5f201c3254.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d0b6a8d0a9.jpg

After the transmission was full I started raising the engine up to tilt it forward. I noticed a drip already and at the same time I noticed that we were missing four bolts on the bottom of the bell housing. Are you kidding me?? How did we miss that? The fluid was seeping out past the gasket in this area. So I searched my hardware and found exactly the right number of the correct size bolts. I put them in with lock washers and torqued them. The leaking seemed to stop.
It was 6:45 and I had to be somewhere across town by 7:00P. So I quickly blocked the transmission up to tip it forward. Hopefully it is tipped forward enough to test the input shaft seal.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0720cdcc90.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f322bb0570.jpg

Today is Saturday. Went for a run in the 17 degree crisp air this morning then got cleaned up and went out and worked on the car from 10A-6P.
I took a quick look when we got to the shop. I didn't see a big puddle of oil under the transmission so I figured it passed the test [emoji106]
We installed the flywheel dust covers. I had to cut down some bolts because we needed short ones. One of the covers had a hole where a sensor used to be. This sensor isn't used for anything on the Deloreans from what I am told so I looked around my shop and found a nice little rubber plug to put in the hole.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e5bb5fe55a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a9868c072f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e0ba9cd315.jpg

I got out the transmission mounts and remembered that the new rubber mounts don't line up right with the brackets on the transmission. These came from D-go btw. Not a big deal. I ground a little material off from the top so they'd fit into the bracket. Next issue...bolt holes are off a bit....quite a bit. So I used drill bits to align the holes. Not ideal but should do the trick. I spray painted the rubber mount pieces where I ground them down so they won't be all rusty and gross. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4d0b0d7ef5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f2a644f569.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...297c5dba8a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e68815e096.jpg

I chased the threads for the exhaust studs while my wife installed the exhaust studs.
If anyone knows where I can get a quality metric tap and die set let me know. Nothing made in China. I have found that the sizes in my set are off. They cut too deep then the nut or bolt fits too sloppy. For the exhaust stud holes luckily they just needed the first 8mm or so cleaned up. So the studs still fit pretty snug still luckily.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...77feb5a905.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...40a8c9c9d3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...020c9d322c.jpg

We installed the engine mount studs and made sure to slather them up with never sieze before installing them. These are notorious for being completely siezed in the aluminum engine block lower half. I have heard of them even rusting and expanding inside the block and splitting the aluminum.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f338cb8d74.jpg
