I know it's a little late ( ) but did a page about the history of the WHE for those that may stumble into the thread here :

A likely possibility that the time machine restoration team has been aware of for years, but not in any way confirmed to be 100% true.
I would be hesitant to share any theory such as this without an actual physical example of a real device that matches the part used on the car. Without a real one found on this wild, this is all still speculation.

I guess I phrased that poorly in my reply.
What I meant is that I would be hesitant to share a theory like this in such a way that presents it as fact, or could make someone believe that it's confirmed information what the WHE actually is.
The post from jeanmariecannie was quoting a previous question "tell the rest of us what the worm hole emitter is" with the reply "[I] did a page about the history of the WHE for those that may stumble into the thread here". Which sounds more like stating facts than a theory. To be fair, the actual site he linked to doesn't directly say "this is it" but rather uses words like "most likely."
But the fact is, the answer to the question "tell the rest of us what the worm hole emitter is" is still "we don't know for sure." or "has not been confirmed."
Posting potential theories is definitely helpful to those of us that are still searching as it might lead someone to actually find the real deal. So I'm completely on board with that and not discouraging anyone from posting their theories. Just say it's a theory if that's what it is.

Yeah I definitely agree with more sharing of ideas and theories whenever possible. Also worth remembering that English is not everyone's first language; if I had to write about this stuff in French, it would be ugly.
For what it's worth, I am not so sure about the light communication device theory and I would still put my money on something that is a more classic radio communication device. But it is super fascinating to read about that invention which I had never heard of before this mention. One of my favorite parts of this whole process has been learning about gyroscope mounts and radiation detectors and silicon control rectifiers and oscilloscopes and so much more.

Hi mark,
Let me start by thanking you for all of the info you left in this page.
Someone should turn it into a document or similar in case the forum goes down.
I wrote 'most likely' twice about what the device might be.
This said the physical resemblence and the words 'tone', 'voice' & 'receiver' on the bottom of the unit seem to indicate it's probably pretty close.
The main idea of my blog is to sparkle the debate, gather and share more information about all of thise before it gets forgotten.
I'll be glad to update any of the pages as soon as more information gets out so don't hesitate to share if you have any extra info.
Here's another theory from the reference pics but that seems even further off :
