I put a jamb nut on the shifter shaft. No big deal but something I keep forgetting to do.

Knocking stuff of "The list" we looked the clutch M.C. I had a slow leak. I had ordered a new hose adaptor and adaptor sealing washer so I figured we would start with that.

The gasket that was on there was not the correct type so that was most likely the cause of the leak.
We filled the reservoir mid way with dot 4 fluid. We cleaned up any spilled brake fluid with windex.

Last but not least we worked on installation of the steering shaft and steering column.
I installed the steering shaft onto the rack. Next I tried putting the column shaft through the tub and bolting the column into place.

The splined shaft was barely sticking out through the tub and the steering wheel/had a bunch of slop. I pulled the column out of the car and discovered that the inner shaft of the column had pushed into the column....fun.
I used some hose pulling pliers to pull the shaft back out. While I had the inner shaft pulled out I cleaned it up and applied new grease. Sorry no photo taken.
I carefully reinstalled the column. Luckily a fair share of the inner shaft made it through the tub this time.
I tried to push the steering shaft on and when I did it just pushed the inner shaft up inside the column.
So we pulled the column out again and yanked the inner shaft out again. This time I had Tam inside the car with needle nose vise grips trying to hold the inner shaft from going into the column. I pushed, yelled, swore, tapped on the steering shaft to get it onto the column shaft. I tried to put the bolt in but it wouldn't go through. I used the bench grinder to taper the end of the bolt.

We had to push on the bolt while trying to turn it with a ratchet wrench. This was horrible and not really working. Eventually I rotated the steering wheel and use a hammer and punch from underneath to drive the bolt through.
Tam tried to get the lock nut on but the threads on the bolt were too messed up. Of course.....

So, drive the bolt back out, install a new, longer bolt (only size I had) and DID NOT TAP IT IN this time. A painful 30 minutes later, eventually Tam wrenched the bolt all the way through.

We put on a washer and a lock nut and celebrated our victory.

Shocked people still support them. I'll never give those lying crooks another dime.
