    Need help identifying shock absorber bushing replacement

    I recently noticed the bushing on my right rear shock absorber was split and bulging out. My shocks were a package offering that came from Marty Maeir in about 2007 or 2008. My mechanic installed them back then and they have been good ever since. None of them are leaking, just this one has the bushing issue.

    I believe them to be a KYB shock, but I can't say which specific model. There was an alternative collar added to them to support the spring base. When I had the bushing out earlier today, it had the number 2205 on it (on both pieces).

    The nut on the bolt came off fine and everything looks good enough to just find a replacement bushing and install. I'm not sure how to determine what replacement bushing will work though and am asking for some help in figuring it out.

    As mentioned, the bushing that came out has 2205 on it and not much else. Does this ring a bell with anyone or allow us to look up that number to find what the current replacement is and where to buy them?

    My shocks are Grady's of the same era. They use a "2210" bushing.
    You can probably find what you need from Energy Suspension after taking some measurements of the opening in your shock.

    The 5/8" size is the length of the bushing in between the end bulges (or the width of your shock where the bushing goes thru).

    Thanks to you both. That was helpful. I have a set of each of those coming and they should be here in the next couple of days. I'll give them both to my mechanic and he can decide which one is the better fit. Cheers!

    Marty must have had a couple different versions of that kit. I had the same thing but the rear shocks were painted blue, I think they were Monroe shocks. When I took them out two years ago (after about 20 years, maybe 20K miles), they were pretty much toast!

    Those lock collar cross referenced shocks should be retired. The collar can slide down the body and cause major driving/safety issues.
    The replacement DMC shocks are very affordable and designed for the car.

    Not only can the collar slide-The body and lower bushings of these cross-over shocks were never designed to support very much static weight. In this application, they bear 65% of the car's weight: nearly 900lbs each with the car standing still. Crazy that anyone thought this was a good idea.

    No.

    First, the shock bushing and body are made to carry the weight of the car.

    Second there are grooves machined into the body of the stock shocks that carry a heavy snap ring. The snap ring is locked in place by the lower spring cup.
