And the winner is: outatym2001!
We solved the problem. Turns out it was the intake manifold that was a bit loose on the left side! You could unscrew the two left bolts by hand!
A couple of fun facts: those bolts were installed by me and my buddy approximately 10 years ago, when we cleaned the VOD and replaced o-rings and gaskets. Ten years after: here we are blaming ourselves and solve the problem once again!
Second fun fact: the bolts were short. So the thread was under sized and little by little the bolts came loose. I did not have those exact infamous M7 screws ready, but I had 4 longer unused M7 laying around...so we cut 2 of them to the correct length, tightened them (very carefully) and TA DAH! the noise went away! I don't know why ten years ago we installed this short bolts, but they were sold to me as the correct bolts to put in there
We were so happy we immediately took the car for a ride and it was a joy! Also, a few days later, I took a two days trip around the Dolomite mountains with my girlfriend... and old 3305 behaved like a champ! No noise, everything was cool and running, volts and energy aplenty... We lived the dream!
So what did we learn? Check the length of every bolt and tighten those suckers! Also: sometimes a big problem can have the easiest solution imaginable!
A pic from our beautiful journey!
