I think the mounts are made to come in direct contact with the ears on the apron of the engine. The through bolts just hold it in place so if you flip the car over the engine doesn't fall out etc.

I would bet if you flip it, those bolts would not hold it. Maybe if they were not slots but then you would have to pull out the bolts to remove the engine.

Possibly but it does have that part that bends 90 degrees. The rubber would probably just separate because it is not a captive engine mount.
