The #7 fuse is wire separately from the fuse box by a previous owner. Lately I notice it is getting hot very quickly. What should i look for to find the cause?

That's the fan fail jumper most likely. If it's hot, check the points of connection and make sure they are very clean, replace the fuse and see if it still gets hot.
PS: I'm assuming you are saying the fuse is hot and not the wires?
#7 powers the fuel pump, WUR heater, lambda ECU and FV. One owner had a shorted FV which blew the fuse, many owner have had the WUR heater wires short inside the case which does not blow the fuse. Most fuel pumps draw 6 or 7 amps normally. Check your current draws.

Typically when #7 runs hot or is wired separately the fuel pump is drawing too much current because it is dying. Also check the connections and ground to the pump and the inertia switch.
