LED license plate lamps [project interest]

Gauging interest for a possible small scale production of a solution to remedy the design issue of the OE license plate lamp housings.

The original license plate light assemblies on my car were inoperative upon delivery. Once taken apart and inspection I found the small plastic tabs that hold the copper terminals broken. I ordered some NOS assemblies - 1 arrived broken. DMC supplied another unit and both were installed with LED bulbs. A short time later the small plastic tabs had weakened and touching them in the slightest will cause breakage.

I am looking into replacing the OE pieces with sealed LED units that will secure with the existing screws and connect to the original wiring. If there is enough interest from the community I will look into making a plug-n-play set. Current cost is estimated ~$130/pair with my plug in wiring and there is no discount from the manufacture on a small scale.

    My VIN:    767 (3.0L EFI/EDIS)

I'm interested. I already ruined one of mine changing the bulb, so having something that's a single sealed unit that I don't have to think about again would be nice.

The price is a little steep, but not outrageous by today standards. Mine seem to be fine, but if they went bad, I would probably do that rather then try to make something. Have you looked into 3D printing them? I don?t know anything about 3D printing, but it seems to be the answer for small plastic parts.

I have not. I don't think it's worth the effort to go that route then procure LED elements to secure inside the printed housings. These units are complete sealed pieces and very close to the size of the OE pieces.
