Any interest in an alert system for your DMC-12?

I posted this a month ago, and did not get much feedback- which I am taking as lack of interest.. But, figured I'd give it a shot here.

Let me know what you think?

    Thanks!

Get the plug and play perfected. You scare most owners when you suggest wiring changes.

I tried that with my lock modules. The RISTS are more expensive than anything else.

With this, I think it can be done with some taps under the driver side console.

I can't see the video via that link ("This content isn't available right now"), and I don't recall seeing you post anything in the FB groups I'm a member of, so I am guessing it was posted to a private Facebook group and that limited who could have seen it and expressed interest.

    cool project, thanks for sharing.

For me personally, I think something like more of a diagnostic device might drive more interest. That is, something that could give you the status of whether there is enough voltage coming out of the battery and/or the coil, whether the neutral safety switch and thermotime switch are sending the signals needed to start the car, etc. Something that would proactively give the answer to the first 10 suggestions from folks in Technical Help who are responding to a "my car won't start" thread. I have no idea if anything like that could be easily built or installed... if the owner needs to be a DeLorean expert to install the thing, maybe they don't need the thing :-) But the voltage sensor in your project, and the fact that my car didn't start one time because of an electrical issue, made me think of this.

Unfortunately I don't think there's going to be much interest in a talking Delorean. There's a reason this type of thing didn't really make it out of the 80s. They found them annoying! I've ridden in a Chrysler LeBaron that talked, can't say I liked it.
    I'm not interested.

It is set up already to monitor voltage, temperature, oil pressure, etc. I considered adding some more technical monitoring, but installing it would be even more evasive. While those features would be helpful, they don't really address the standard stuff most modern cars would alert the driver about.

This all started because so many people disconnect the annoying stock buzzer in the car. That module controls the seat belt alert, along with the key-in ignition alert. Some years ago, I was asked to modify a car to have a "lights on" alert, and I did it by wiring a relay in to the existing module- that owner ended up disconnecting the whole module again because of the annoying sound. Over the years, I have seen people express an interest in something more attention-getting than the temperature gauge to alert the driver to an overheat condition.

So, anyway.. An audio alert for such normal things like seatbelt, lights on, doors open, key left in the ignition, low/high voltage, high temperature, etc seemed like it would be useful.

The talking is more optional than anything. It can easily be modified to play any recorded sound. Like, the "bong" many modern cars make when you leave the lights on, etc.
