No backup cable, I prefer living life on the edge. Luckily, I was able to grab onto the frayed end of the cable with some pliers and pop the hood. Honestly, I don't understand the need for a backup cable. According to my calculations, the cable is most likely to break in one spot. That spot being the set screw under the dash. When it eventually breaks, there's still enough cable sticking out of the sleeve to grab with pliers. Maybe the ball end of the OEM cable broke on some people, and that's what started the backup cable craze. To be fair, the OEM cable that I removed from my car did look a lot weaker than the one I replaced it with, especially the ball end.
Well I think the photos of people having to remove the hood from the headlight buckets is sufficient motivation to add a backup cable no matter how unlikely that scenario is. It costs almost nothing and would save you from an ocean of frustration.

So after adding a light to my amplifier fan, I noticed a speaker rattle coming from the right rear 4x10. I bought a pair of Pyle 150/300w 4x10's for the rear to replace the Eclipse 100w DMCH speakers. After installation, I had another issue. My JL Audio 8" sub was also a little buzzy and I found the foam suspension ring had torn. Hey this setup is 15+ years old now so I think I got good life out of it.
I then bought an Alpine S series to keep with the Alpine flow of the deck and cd changer. After all that, I got a little homesick for those vintage graphic equalizers of the 80's and the embedded "spectrum analyzers" that have long since gone so I found a cheap 20 channel display. After adding the required noise filters and completing the "soft install", I built a box, carpeted it, made a tinted screen to hide everything but the lights, and mounted it below the amp fan. (no room in the dash even for a small unit).
I was going to install it flush with the rear panel but the amp location would only allow me to offset it to one side and this way it's 100% reversible. Also allows me access to the different display mode controls (some not as flashy, some even more flashy). I also added a beat lamp to the sub. Nobody will see it but it will look cool at shows. Finished off the install with some black treated screws for the tinted analyzer lens cover and mounting plate. I was so mesmerized by the old Pyramid equalizer displays of the 80's. Now I can have that warm fuzzy retro magic back.

I miss spectrum analyzers, always tried to have one in the dash somewhere on my 80's-90's cars.
I wanted to put a slim eq/vu meter with sliders in above or below the head unit, but there just wasn't room in the console without major modification. I suppose I could have done a pop out screen stereo with an eq analyzer function built in but that defeats the purpose. It's not really 80s retro when it's on a lcd touch screen.

Over the weekend my son and I put in LED Headlights from Delorean Parts Northwest. They are really nice and look great. My son showing the highs.
