I ended up trying my luck at fixing the board with a new LED. I picked up a few online for only $.39 ea. Got 8 each of red and amber so I had a few more as spares:

It was a little tricky since the parts are so damn small and are surface mount, but I managed to get the old one de-soldered and the new one in place and it worked!
The new led is slightly brighter, but not enough to notice when it's installed in the door.

I was running those same DMCH LED's before I installed Tom's LED boards a few years back. They were working fine but it always bothered me how they were so close to the lens and only made a small dot of light in the center.
As a backup plan if fixing the LED boards didn't work I was planning on buying these from DeLorean Go.

Anyone else running these? They look to be shorter and about the same size as the original bulb so they wouldn't be pressed right up against the lens.

Getting the LEDs as far as you can from the lens will give you the most even light. I run 16 surface mount LEDs and have the circuit board sitting on the bottom of the housing. For that you need to remove the OEM sockets. I guess your could glue your socket further back.
