Stock muffler before cleaning up....
Muffler after cleaning it up. Cheated with drill powered wire wheel on heavy middle area and then bronze wool with Borla S/S exhaust cleaner and polish...turned out great!

Looks good Josh, I was just looking at my old one on the shelf and was thinking of graining it and repolishing it. I stuck a magnet on it and it stuck so its not really stainless, just the tips appear to be.

That's an incredible difference. Nice work.
How long does that last you think before it starts to mark up again?

@ Josh, I am not sure exactly probably a normal steel or 4140. It tends to not rust to bad if ran on a regular basis because the constant heat evaporates any moister to star corrosion. Yours has been sitting for a good while.
@ Tamir, It will start to darken back up soon after the car has run for a while. Especially in the lower center of the muffler. It will eventually look like before unless constantly maintained. I did mine this way before I got my SS UK set up yrs ago. It still looks better that what it did originally though.

inspired by this thread i removed my ugly mufffler and did the same treatment, i also have a few cracks around the center spot welds so i welded them up which made the car a bit quieter and the exhaust is much better sealed. However as soon as i get the cash a dual system will take its place.
the center section didnt brighten up as well as i wanted up over its better
