Seriously. This forum is about collaboration, information sharing, and building relationships. It's not for espousing how much better you are than everyone else.
(Although I am personally better than all of you and this rule does not apply to me.)
If you want to be a dick on an internet forum, there are plenty of others from which to choose. Don't shit on our forum just because you think you have some kind of superiority over the rest of the users here. You don't.
No crap. I'm not usually this 'mean' to people but "Earl Hickey" seems like a real douche. Nothing but constantly trying to act like we are a bunch of children who don't know the 'right' way to make something, or criticizing any part that doesn't have $10,000 worth of testing applied to it, wind-tunneled, and laser-scanned into 3D. What do you think this is, Corvette Owner's Club with one million members?
We are a small, generally humble group who enjoy our cars, the friendships, the broken bolts, car shows, and going for weekend cruise-in's. Some here are more 'technical' than others but I don't think anyone is on the level "Earl" expects.
I'd like to believe "Earl" has something to contribute and it would be great if someone who is on a whole other level could help improve our marque. Problem is, he no idea what others have already contributed and perhaps what he asks is impossible for an owner base as small as we have.
So "Earl" - maybe during all these years of you being awesome you never learned something called netiquette. First, learn to lurk more and find out what the demeanor of the group is like before you make 100 posts discrediting people who don't meet your lofty standards. Second, quit talking about your world-wide magazine spreads and 10,000 RPM engines and start posting some pics of what you have done, links to your accomplishments and articles, and some actual evidence to back-up what seems to me to be years of book smarts with nothing to back it up. I've never been in a forum where someone boasted about more crap with zero evidence.
Prove me wrong and I'll eat my words. Until then, you should just cool it.
Respectfully,
Andy Lien

I'm sort of glad this is coming out, because I thought I might be the only one who felt that way and didn't want to be the one to drive someone away.
EarlHickey, you have some interesting ideas and the level of detail you demand for them indicates a very high level of technical competency. That cannot be disputed. However, like Andy said we are a small group of friends and enthusiasts. Getting 10,000 RPM out of a 40 year old PRV just isn't on the docket for most of us, and while it's a lofty and interesting goal for you, the rest of us don't need to be talked down to in the pursuit of it.
To top that all off, criticizing a vendor for having poor English (especially one for whom English is a second language and whose parts are well respected and proven) is really bad form. These guys put a lot of effort into developing new parts knowing full well that if their development was installed in every car out there, the most they would sell is about 6,500 units. In reality they will sell maybe 1/100th of that if they're lucky. It is understandable they don't divulge all the design specifications and they should be lauded for making the effort, not condemned for not making it easy for us to steal their ideas.

You have GOT TO BE KIDDING or are a complete lemming that would actually buy very expensive parts without any specs, dyno sheets or even assurance that it's not slave labor made junk that a guy like you may stuff in his museum piece and never thrash it enough to find out the hard way what you bought.
My guess is that you've never ground a camshaft or you'd know that two camshafts, with identical specs can be completely different beasts, quality of materials not even being a factor. A cam can even check at it's specs and still be junk that will harm expensive parts inside your engine.
I could rant comprehensively about other parts but, why bother?
I suggest you open your eyes and see how the non-fly-by-night big boys do it, and have done it, successfully, for years.
I know complete backwoods hillbillies that built their own very potent and durable engines and they can rattle off the specs of most every component they purchased.
Are they going to hand over molds of their winning ports or other difference making tricks? Probably not.
Now if my assurance that I will never be such an easy lay as to hand over my hard earned for any internal engine parts of unknown manufacture, materials or even specs, truly makes this forum not for me, you really don't want me pointing out what that would make anyone that agrees with you.
However "condensing" that may come off as being.
I'd recommend that you not let your commando keyboard fingers write any further insulting and dubious checks by trying to brush me with your unfounded and baseless "people like you" paint, which is very derogatory. I doubt you'd say that to me in person.

I suggest you not look too deeply into how the computer you used to post this comment was made. The holier than thou attitude really adds nothing to the conversation.
We have acknowledged that you know what you're talking about, but clearly you are after information we don't have in pursuit of a goal that isn't common with a lot of the membership.

You missed my point completely.... my comment really had nothing to do with the grammar. It was exactly what the parody illustrated. Here, fast cam, trust me, never check expensive part, pay me and stick it.
I NEVER said anything about 10,000 rpm being a GOAL FOR ME or my car.
For sucks fake, I came on asking basic internal dims as my car is up and running and I haven't bought another engine and trans to scatter for inspection. Now I'm sure I won't be buying those bits from anyone who would want to guard such information as though it was their secret property and are unwilling to simply share easy info.
If you read enough of my posts to make such a ridiculous assumptions of my goals, your comprehension is lacking as I've clearly stated all I want to do is FULLY OPTIMIZE what is there, including the miserable and soft stock cam. I can tell you this and I'm very qualified to say, nobody offers an exhaust that will do that and from the best I can tell and have seen, only one is remotely suitable for anything short of a large turbo application or a normally aspirated engine that doesn't see 10 grand and above.
Maybe later, down the road, I'll piece together some top shelf bits in a pile and build a 24V engine that is far from stock. I'll have my own cams ground, to my specs, before I pay ANYONE real money for their "fast cam" or "aggressive cam" with secret an undisclosed specs.
Now, if somebody asks for a good baseline for IR carbs for this 35mm port engine having 44 mm intake valves and 37mm exhaust valves with tinier ports.... using the stock cam...
I can answer that easily including header dimensions that will make very good use of any fuel that is consumed. I won't hand over my crossover specifics and it's unlikely that I would ever allow what I am building to even be photographed to scale those dims.
Thank you to those who helped as they were able to obtain the info which had do be dragged out of all corners of the world.
It's amazing to see the difference in other special interest car groups who share basic information freely and component specs from specialty vendors are provided as part of the process of good faith marketing. Geeeeze!
