I keep the data in an Excel spreadsheet so I don't have a way of keeping old data unless I keep historical backups, which I don't. My goal is to have the interior color and transmission type as it was when it left the factory so if someone changes the interior I wouldn't change it in the data. The locations change all the time so that portion of the data will change.

This is much simpler than attempting to wade through multiple PDF's which do indeed appear to be less complete than the registry, of sorts, found here. My car is actually on this registry as well as original owner info, plus.

As far as can tell, the most complete and comprehensive Delorean Registry laid out in a sensible and logical order. It does however, fail to openly disclose a few details anyone should care to know about their car.

Most of the 500 series cars did not have the door sill VIN plates, since they were not available
when many of the 500 series cars were initially assembled.

VIN...500 has the "incorrect" 1982/1983 style door sill VIN plate, which was most likely installed
when the car was donated to the Crawford Auto Museum (with an incorrect 1982 window sticker).

VIN...502 has a correct style 1981 style door sill VIN plate, added later while at Legend Industries.

VIN...520 never had a door sill VIN plate, since Day 1 that it was delivered to the US in January 81.

VIN...583 has a correct style 1981 style door sill VIN plate, although it was not installed "straight".

I have no idea where the engine number listed for my car, VIN 10921, was obtained, my engine number is 000000529. I am attaching a photo to verify, but I could not get all the zeros in the shot since the Stage 1 makes that impossible for my camera. All other information is correct.

For example, VIN 2079 was built in Sept, but all the VINs close to it were built in June.If one VIN gets delayed compared to others around it, chances are there were problems in production and it had to be repaired/fixed/replaced before going out the factory. It wasn't a precise science, and things did screw up along the way. For example, maybe one of the workers accidentally rams some equipment into the rear quarterpanel just before the stainless panels go on, damaging the underbody, engine compartment, cabin, glass, etc., and now it has to be placed on the sidelines until they decide what to replace and what to repair, and then take the time to actually do it. They specialized in constructing DeLoreans, not repairing them, so repairs could take quite a bit of time sometimes, especially with the more complicated repairs.

I think I can answer that. The September date for VIN 2079 was provided to me. I don't have a VIN photo to verify it. I suspect it's a false date and I beleive it should be June like the other cars around it.

The VINs from 500-960 seemed to vary. My guess is that they put the manufacture date on the plate when it was finally shipped out the door. Car that had issues might have been pulled to the side and finished later. That's why the dates vary. After VIN 960 the dates were pretty consistent. They changed the VIN plate style around VIN 1240 IIRC.

Makes more sense than removing it entirely; at least then we can see it's an educated guess.

VIN 12199 wasn't actually completed by WH either; David Rogers bought a container full of parts from Wooler Hodec, which included a converted but not fully reassembled DeLorean and various other bits including a stack of VIN plates (12199 was the last plate in the stack).
Chris Nicholsson was sure that more parts survived and has been after them for years; 12306 also had some conversion work started on it (tub was already modified when I first saw it) but was even less complete than 12199 and some major parts weren't present in the stash
(e.g. no engines). He didn't say if they were also in a container or a shed/warehouse/etc but it must have been somewhere dry as there is no rust on the steel parts. Chris has a handful of VIN plates in the WH range but as with the ones David recovered they don't have any
date of manufacture stamped.

What I'm curious about was whether the parts for 12306 were originally assembled in Belfast. The known WH cars were all originally 'black cars' assembled as training cars in Belfast without stainless panels, then sent over to WH with new panels, dismantled, converted
and reassembled. 12199 and 12306 could also have be black cars, or they could be made from individual parts sent over later or even parts from several different original cars (prior to being diassembled by Wooler Hodec).

I was curious if this is a piece of information on one of the VIN chronology lists somewhere. Do we know what the count is of these types of VINs? Can it be looked up/searched?

There are a couple cars being parted out right now, and others mentioned recently, and I just thought it was another angle to look at the "how many Ds still exist?" question.

And what happens to the last couple pieces of a car/VIN when it gets parted out? Does it still exist somewhere/somehow? Like if you have the VIN plate for example? I can think of at least a few parts on my car that came from a parts car versus NOS, so unless those types of parts start to get created again, these parts that are now on my car represent a portion of a whole car that can never be its own car again...

Thanks Shannon. I didn't realize the registry had the stats feature. The wrecked number seems a bit low, but I know the list is at the mercy of getting the information relayed back and in. Can't update something you never hear about!

I grabbed the Canadian data too. I was comparing it to the owners I know and seeing what is missing. I think we know of around 60 in Ontario, yet all of us seem to get regular mentions of the "oh yea, my friend knows of one of these out near his brother-in-laws, neighbors shop" or something like that. Much of the time you never have anything to go on to try and follow up on the lead, but occasionally someone gives enough information that you can put the puzzle together and then you find another car.
