View Full Version : Suspension New front shocks won't fit inside LCA?

Hi,

I purchased the upgraded shocks from DMCH. When I tried to install the front ones, I was unable to fit the shock + two metal bushings in to the LCA.

Advice on how to get these installed? Is a new LCA in my future? (I hope not!)

It looks like the bushings are about 1/8" too wide to fit inside. I wasn't sure if I should try to force it or not.

If the car previously had xref shocks with spacers and/or washers, the LCA could be bent inwards.

F*@^ john hervey. Is there a way to unbend it enough to get the new ones to fit?

I did this a few months ago. I used a small rod (3/8") thru the opposite side shock hole and beat the other side out. Repeated for the other side. Wasn't the most elegant metal work i've done but it worked.

Instead of banging on it why not use a threaded rod, 2 nuts, and 2 washers to make a "spreader" that you can expand by turning the nuts with open end wrenches?

As delivered from the supplier the front shock bushings in the DMCH and our shocks are too wide to fit an unbent LCA properly. Forcing them in as is really isn't an option unless you beat them in with a sledge hammer. We asked the supplier to make a correction but they demurred so we have the bushings turned down to the correct width to fit properly after receiving each batch. I guess you could say we go the extra mile for the customer in this case.

Mine are holding up fine! I need to stiffen them up though. Something like the outrigger kit you have.

Definitely if you are running brakes that grab more so than stock.

Best bet would be to get a Dimension from an nos unit. We tweaked the design to our specs. I think grady had a pair on the shelf when I was browsing his stock pile.

Definitely if you are running brakes that grab more so than stock.

I'm a little confused; since you came out with your stainless LCA's, you've on multiple occasions said that they should not be run with, nor should they need LCA support brackets. Has your opinion changed now that you sell LCA brackets?

No same opinion. If you are running stock brakes. LCA supports previously were only available from others. I didn't like how they moved on the bushings only flanged on one side. This allowed from contact and rubbing on our arms. Hence the statements not to use with our arms. Our lca support offering corrects this concern and will make the arms even better but not required on stock brake equipped cars. Our brake upgrade requires keeping the arm more stationary and removing more movement out of the front to back travel of the suspension to limit the load on the single bushing mounting point on frame.

I just had to do this a few days ago.

I thought about making a spreader out of the bolts, but it was nice to get my frustrations out by using the hammer.
