F me likewise mouse;) cheers, too bad it's on the bottom part of the car... Won't be visible too much.

F me, too. Alex, don't worry about the suspension only being seen from below. First of all, it's a masterpiece. Second of all, it's not alone. Everything you're doing is gorgeous... including your "disappearing" a-hole. That stainless patch was VERY well done.

Keep it up. The work, thread, and pictures are amazing.

Thank you Alan!
Needless to say that I am not a professional TIG welder, but patching the frame gave me good exercise. Yet welding thick steel is much easier that this thin stainless!

I was scared shitless while doing that cause the high temperature brings the thin fender to warping. I had to hammer it back to place.

I may look easy in 3 photos but I will just say I was lucky. Had I a second fender to do it over? Dono if I have the guts!

Now back to work. I want this baby on the road by September!

Major US vehicle get together in Athens called V-day. Harley's, muscle cars, beer n chicks in leather gonna be there. The only Delorean in Greece is expected with great anticipation....

On with the show....

Worked with the storage compartment panels. The bolts were seized and somebody tried cutting those out...the ugly way so I am reviving them...

Next is smoothing out, painting and drilling in the wholes.

Trany is assembled after major overhaul and now ready for installation..

Fuck me, i'm jealous of your energy.

May I give you a little suggestion? Protect those seats. Put a bedsheet or blanket over them, anything really. I'm sure you are a capable mechanic, but you are working with screwdrivers, cutting tools, soldering irons, etc, near those pretty seat covers. It needs only one little moment, and it's fucked up.

Carry on.

Thanx Rob... Yes I have thought about that.

Speaking of energy.... I too have a "little" health problem that I have never mentioned.... today I was in so much pain, I did not have enough strength detach the nut from the ratchet.... :blackeye:
But I can't just sit around... I will rather die doing something than survive doing nothing! !!!:evil3:

I want this baby on the road in a MONTH!

Will it be easy to register? How long will it take to make the car legally driveable out there in Greece? :)

I keep on being ashtonished by the fact that you prove to have major skills in EVERY SINGLE area that concerns the car. Pure mechanical, fiberglass, electric stuff, regraining steel, carpetry... you are just awesome in ALL of that!!

:swear1: :approve: :approve:

ALEXAKOS
08-06-2014, 03:16 AM
Gracie amico! I assure you, this is not what if looks like! My electrics knowledge sucks and everything else is on a practice and learn basis.

The state NOW without an engine transmission and seat is legally drive able in Greece! Hehehe

I am half way through with the registration, all I need is the picture if it to receive the plates

I know this video is useless to you but is proof that I am fighting this dragon by my own.

I bled the clutch and wanted to see of of is working. So I placed my phone over the clutch slave cylinder and stepped on the pedal to see of it is doing anything.., :)

In the mean time I was assigned to find the legend Myron Stylianides. Dunmury's head of personnel and admissions.
I located him in Thessaloniki. Found his landline but did not get in touch with him. Too bad cause today is his nameday. A very important celebration for Greek Orthodox's!

one step forward...two steps back...:(
After having the timing cover removed to correct the timing sequence..... I Filled her up with antifreeze and there it was... My worries that it would drip.

http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz135/alex-akos/delo%20resto/5C0B9789-DC95-40F6-8497-15D608F39C08_zpscxijw0b2.jpg
The dripping came from the classic leak whole behind the pulley right under side.

The whole pump refurbishment was for nothing,.

PLUS I had to re drain the coolant, remove the Kjet and the intake manifold.
Back to square two!

I know it doesn't help. I'm just telling you some zen-mind-mumbo-jumbo-make-belief to make you feel better. They say i'm getting better at it. One day I might use it on my self. Like yesterday my brother came home from holiday (in Greece btw) saying he's a lot poorer now. I said to him: "No, you are very much richer. You gained relaxation, new impressions, time-out from work, new foods, new friends, time with your wife and kid! Money by itself is worth nothing".

Myron was the head of Administration and employees back in the Legendary factory in Dunmury since 1977, having hired most of the high ranking executives along with Charles Bennignton.
Unfortunately Myron has passed and the Delorean Employee reunion on May will be missing his attendance. I am sure he will be present in all DMC's employees minds.

So the Volvo water pump came in, fitted the old pulley with the very helpfully instructions of Dave at DMCMW.

Installed the air induction manifold and the k jet housing. Next up all the peripherals, vaccum n wiring.

ALEXAKOS

Yes that has been noted before.
I have loosely mounted it on that side temporarily cause there is a whole lots of wires, pipes n hoses to be pulled on the other side yet and it's an obstacle. I will mount it on the correct side when I am close to done.

My d has been fendered.
After the very helpful assistance of a classic vehicle enthusiasts Antonis, in adjusting the doors, I managed to set on the fenders.

What we realized with Antonis, is that it was not us who were unable to calibrate those doors perfectly. It was the Delorean build that was uneven and made impossible to center. The front and rear door infill panels are installed by factory with almost an inch difference between driver and passenger side.

Enough said. Here are the pics.

$£%#?¥£¥%#$
Anybody ever removed the water pump knows what those hieroglyphics stand for....
This time I covered the VOD so I don't have to collect the coolant from all the little wholes...
http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz135/alex-akos/delo%20resto/598385E3-209C-45ED-BA15-CC89B867BD14_zpsnidrnpkt.jpg

And the coolant ran into a container in the front
http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz135/alex-akos/delo%20resto/7D530C30-BBA7-456C-AC21-460B5FEE029C_zpseahk2gq8.jpg

On opening the pump, the gasket was tightly glued still in the lips and came apart splitting in half.
http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz135/alex-akos/delo%20resto/05AFD376-1FEB-4E0B-BF5C-C0D13DFCEF99_zpsvfgparcs.jpg

Looking closer I realized it was the gasket its self that failed. The slight leakage derived from a slight spot where the gasket probably had come apart. Note this was a brand new gasket....
Notice the wet area of the gasket and the rest is dry.
http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz135/alex-akos/delo%20resto/DA654E1C-48D2-4DED-B2DF-5BBC2214A6E2_zps9sxj7yp3.jpg

On assembly I chose to just use gasket silicone that is special for coolant components.

Back on the engine with this the rascal...

On a happier note, I puts some juice onto my fuel pump.. Apparently it works fine..... And I heard flushing :(
One of the accumulator hoses was loose gushing fuel. One good thing delorean did was this peep hole index the centre console.. Pulled one screw and the cap.. Peek a booo!

Tightened that sucker. Repo we're the pump... And I heard it like blood in its veins running through after 25 years....

Here is a vid I made trying to spot any leaks.

What sounded weird is after turning it off it made noises like the pipes were relaxing after the tension.

That's usually the accumulator de-pressurizing. If you heard it quickly the accumulator is losing pressure. If you hear it after a half hour-hour its OK. Sometimes sounds like "clunk" from the middle of the car.

Thank you Dave.
Yes it did sound like depressurization from there but it was more like several klunks for 5 minutes . The all parts (except the frame lines) are brand new mind you and this was their first time they were put under pressure.

ALEXAKOS

which exhaust manifolds you were using,
It's the original Renault Alpine A310 manifold. They were made for turbo and come straight down as opposed to have them go around the back of the engine (or in driving direction)

Wow, you either have a very lean/thin catalytic converter or none at all. ;)
Ill take the second.
I have used a Volvo Kjet which has no check valve, no complex vacuum lining and NO ECU. Hence No CAT. I am more of a dog person.

I was actually disappointed that the frame number wasn't rewritten exactly as it originally had been. 😉

Ok, I was actually impressed that the frame number was rewritten at all. I didn't know people have done that.

Coming from you that is the best compliment I could have had:)
Would not have done without the sticker. One of my primary troubling thoughts... How I would best preserve the old sticker.
Thanx to maroon I am back on... But without the native head :(

Sorry Alan. Could not find a working marker from 1981....

I figured if someone will restore it again in 30 years from now he will appreciate my effort.

Oh and I also preserved the fish design on the rear of the bumper absorber.;)
For the next person to discover;)

Did you paint the front cooper cobra tires for the RWL look, or did you go through treadwear for the RWL's?

Merci Domi:)

The tires are just painted with a marker... 4 layers. Front tires do not have a white face at all underneath.

I appreciate your appreciation :)
The only thing I am not real happy of is the dmoco shifter plate.
I never seen anyone complain and it made me wonder.
It makes shifting a bit of extra effort and a lot of getting used to. No matter how I tried to regulate the transmission it's still a game of Tetris every time I shift.

Plus it is creating hitting marks on my brand new stainless shifter column by DPI which is simply a great upgrade!!!!
Way to go josh!

(After the sump gasket, the tranny breather and another tranny seal)
I had to remove the tranny today after only having driven 70 miles...

(Yes I drive with that BARCODE license plate!!! It's 2015 isn't it? :p)

The seal just wasn't doing its job and it cost me 200€,
There was no way I hell I would try and remove that tranny again alone in my garage.

MY DELOREAN WILL MAKE GREEK HEADINES:)

Next week the Greek issue publishers of "car&driver" mag will do a shoot for their next edition.

It was seen at a A/C service centre while getting my system filled.

They were amazed of the condition and asked for my contact details.

I don't suppose anyone wants a copy of that issue eh? Hahaha

Onwards picking up tiny left over jobs

Another problematic DMCH part. The inner door seals.
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/27/0165e4dbd235ba38e02d3035130e4b6c.jpg
Even with constant silicone lubbing, realigning and care, they just tore after about 40 opening and closing the doors, they tore up on both sides at the exact same place. On the upper front corners. Those are too damn big if you ask me and the pressure on the doors closing were always too tight.
So I got a set for half as much one size smaller.
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/27/c3ceb33da930f487935e8fb6a703a70a.jpg
Fits perfectly, seals just great and let's the door close smoothly.

I finally my A/C is done with 134a cooling fluid.
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/27/a6f4ada53b8c0925cf911dd275bebf0c.jpg
Works perfectly and will give me a cool head in the summer.

Last job, I got rid of the upper engine louvre seals and replaced them with a rather softer seal.
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/27/2be496929c2352b7a28dabb30c003d19.jpg
Grips nicely on the provided rear fender lips and let's the louvre sit softly when closed.

First I cleaned the lips
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/27/7c06d4cdd676e6d003b9f20bac831763.jpg
Then cut out the damper bases
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/27/43e17a11810fc9689a8be908ac414718.jpg
And clipped on
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/27/0f4b0b9ad50d3355660c2e1218640772.jpg

This is what the resting of the louvre looks like

Installed abrasive loads. It's 4 sheets stapled on to a loop. 3 such loops on each load.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/03/2464db82e52bbd089489017924af2896.jpg
Mount cover and turn clockwise to pull in the excessive sheets. You can regulate how long you want them to extend. Or you can extract and cut off the worn tip of the sheet.

Then just mount on your drill...
It's not easy. The head is heavy and it takes a lot of practice to keep your hand always parallel to the ground to obtain that straight lines Finishing. The perfect job requires all panels to cone of and work on a table.
