Last week at a local car show Two people came up to talk with me telling me they have Deloreans, with one man with 3 Deloreans in his garage!! The other man brought his Delorean to the show and it had a for sale sign in the front window.

Yeah, whenever I go out in mine someone has to tell me about his uncle, or cousin, or grandpa, or someone in the neighborhood, who has one, or how he has one, or two, or three, sitting in his garage, or barn, at home, or somewhere else.
If we add those folks' imaginary DeLoreans to the total actually produced, I wonder how many thousands we'd have in total.

I'd believe it when I saw it. Then again, I'm a natural skeptic, and for all I know you may live in an area of the country that is replete with DeLoreans...

I believe it, and I'm skeptical too.
I used to keep hearing about a D off in some part of a town near me when I was at the local cruise night. Something about it being in the driveway under a tarp, yada yada yada. Then one day a guy mentions it and actually knows the address. I go check it out and the story ends with another car joining ODOC because the owner gave another thought to getting it restored instead of just sitting there. I think he had a fuel line break, and one of the ones you need to lift the body off the frame to get to to replace. We convinced him to keep the car and he could handle getting the fuel lines fixed.
On the other hand, I kept hearing about another car in a different town near me. I'm like, yea sure. Then I get the guys name and he worked at the same place as me (which isn't hard to believe because 4,000+ people worked at this facility). I actually said hello to him at one point not quite figuring it completely in time when I recognized the name on his hardhat riding up the elevator in the station. I emailed him a hello and that ODOC is here to help if you need to get your car sorted out. It was met with a "my car got put away under a cover when my kids were born and it's not coming out until they are old enough to help me maintain it." Alriiiiighty then! Have fun with that.
So, there are a few truths out there to these stories. Maybe not all, but some. Like you said Farrar, if they were all true, we'd have somehow produced 90,000 DeLoreans in the 80s versus 9,000. Kind of like how many people say they were in Boston at Fenway Park to see Carlton Fisk's homerun live when it happened... yet somehow the park only holds 40,000 people and not 240,000, lol :)

Glad you got the details of the car.
My Uncle saw a red DeLorean in town and told the guy that I had one. The guys was like "Yeah, sure he does" and drove off.

I live in a rather rural area, and everybody I meet has an uncle or cousin with a Delorean....later I came to realize everyone around here is related in some way (yikes!)

I would bet there are still a lot of Ds out there hidden away. The owners think they are sitting on a gold mine so it does no good to go see them.

After reading the above, I had to post this link for another fellow DeLorean owner/collector, who also collects memorabilia related to Carlton Fisk's career:

Check out the database of tickets and ticket stubs (over 90% complete) of the 2499 games that Carlton Fisk played in during his major league career.
Below is a direct link to tickets to the famous Game 6 referred to in the above quote:

Well today i went out on the quest to see if a Delorean could be found out in the (wild) and what do you know not one not two but THREE more Deloreans found not more than 15 miles from my house and all in the same garage!! Yes it's true three more are now found and two are road ready. I talked for about 1 1/2 hours to the the man with three Deloreans today and we looked at all three. The first one has the stainless steel finish and is a stick, with groves on the hood (no gas flap), grey interior, with the radio ant. on the front fender, and he's thinking about selling it. Number two also has the stainless steel finish, stick shift, has a flat hood, grey interior, and right now has the headliners out and both sides has (cave art). Number three is his black Delorean, this one will need more work done to it to make it back on the road, but when ready it will have a groves hood(no gas flap),stick. I asked him about the vin numbers but he did not give them so i did not push it. We talked about his cave art and other Delorean info, i asked him to check out dmctalk for info like the (hot start item) cave art, and other items on his cars --tom
