I think they are from 2012. I found KARR recently in my local Walmart. It was in a discount bin and a little beat up like they found it in the store room under a shelf.

Really? Wouldn't the only exterior difference be the yellow scanner?

I follow AutoArt on Facebook, and just today they posted pictures from one of their latest exhibits/shows. In there product line-up, the DeLorean was there.

19196

I've emailed them several times as well, asking about a potential release date. No response.

Very nice detail. If you look close you can tell the MARKER LENSES are too long. Kinda interesting that they added the Highlighted DMC door sills (not stock) and the lowered Stance. Pretty cool since this is more representative of the one parked in my garage :bigclap:. Now, If they could only power up the lights and and give it running engine noises. :rolleyes1:

Yeah I vaguely remember the 2 tone version now. KARR was made in 2 versions. The first looking Externally the same as KITT (w/RED scanner). The later resurrected KARR had the The 2 tone black over silver and YELLOW scanner.

Spotted this today at Walmart, not sure about the price, it wasn't listed. DeLorean is dead center on the bottom row. I had only seen the boulevard series sold separately, and never saw a boulevard DeLorean in stores, so I thought this was interesting.

Oh, sweet!!

I still have only found 1 Boulevard D.

Anyone have any pics of the 2 new ones James mentioned 'in the wild'? I'm worried I haven't seen any yet! ;)

I've never seen a Boulevard D in any store. Thankfully mom likes to buy random things off Amazon and she gave me one. I wonder if that Boulevard pack is a way for HW to clean out all the inventory they haven't been able to move.

I'm keeping my eyes open for the late HW city Delorean. Hopefully I'll be able to catch at least one for my collection.

I'd heard about that one and it was supposed to be a Wal-Mart exclusive, but had never seen one in any Wal-Mart store around my Houston.

Did a little Search for Juke box series hot wheels.

There are 3 cars representing the NEW WAVE Genre James mentioned the genre the Delorean was representing is NEW WAVE. "Will likely be very limited appeal"

# 22 80 El Camino http://hwcollectorsnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/DSCN1997.jpg

# 23 84 Grand prix http://hwcollectorsnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/DSCN1996.jpg

# 24 Unknown at this time. 81 Delorean (Possiblity) But Not shown.

You get the idea of what kind of wild graphics to expect.

I love these hot wheels Deloreans, i scoop them up. I wish they would make a proto 1 version instead of heading towards sparkle magic colors. I mean we all have the Turismo right, ...there is a company in Europe that makes toy Deloreans in red, yellow, green, black, white, and blue...But like i said, i will still buy them even if they were hot pink.

Jeez, does George Lucas own Hot Wheels? 5 years from now there will still be new models of the same thing coming out.

A friend of mine found me 2 of these the other day. I really like the color scheme, but the details are really lacking in a lot of areas on this particular model.

I still need to bite the bullet and get an RLC for the collection, and haven't seen any New Wave ones yet....

Picked up one of the new ones at my local hardware/five and dime shop. Cool custom factory-inspired stripes but I would have rather seen an emblem on the grill than the hot wheels logos.

What is the future of the DMC/Mattel license? I had read the Red Line Club could be the last. Why not use that new set of toolings again? The Retro Entertainment series drops the "Retro" next year. Maybe they could find a way to do opening doors for a $5 price tag.

Also, what about a Proto 1 hot wheels based on the original HW DeLorean that eventually became the generic Turismo? No new tooling costs there.

I thought the same thing! The quality of this car isn't as high as some others, but I wouldn't mind those red accent stripes in real life.

Has anyone actually found the new wave cars yet?

Michael
10-09-2013, 08:18 PM
Well as I added my three to the pile so I decided to count up just how insane I am...I have almost 60 of these "stupid little plastic cars" now(not including the ones I gave away or opened up) including a Boulevard and a Redline Club. I have at least 6-12 of each version ever released except for the New Wave, so I guess I will in fact continue the crusade to get at least one of them so I will have a full boat...until HW releases the next line of DeLoreans that is.

I have decided to absolutely load up on the City cars while I can. I am going to use these as give aways to kids...A lot of times I will return to my car in a parking lot to find a kid drooling over it with his mom trying to take pics. I always ask if they would like to sit in it and have their picture taken. It's even better if I have a HW car to pass along afterward, so I need to get at least 30 of the City cars for the long run.

I have never once seen them on the actual shelves, but I have found more than 10 of them by digging through the massive bins at the endcap (YMMV of course). My trick is to bring over a cart, empty one whole bin into the cart by going through it, then empty the bin next to it into the first one, and so on until I've gone through every single car. I think that after talking to people about the SS and how unique it is, their eyes look disappointed when I give them a gold one.

I actually prefer the black one. I think I try and divest myself if the gold one as I think that I should have only one, in proportion to real ones made. :)

Jon, have you actually seen the new wave ones in stores or just the striped one?

I can see how a "visitor" might not appreciate the gold ones. I guess since I have a huge amount of the cars I have the luxury of comparing them and nitpicking those details - but you're 100% right, if you're giving them out people are gonna want the stainless ones. And not the FTE model - the original one with silver wheels. Which I don't have any of.

I have not seen a single New Wave one. I bought a ton of the HW City recently, and I always see the section where the New Wave would be with the other "decades" cars - but never a D.

I'm not giving away any of the originals...I have 14 of the originals and they seem to be the most sought after on eBay...around 5-6 bucks each on average: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HOT-WHEELS-2010-NEW-MODELS-15-81-DELOREAN-DMC-SILVER-10-SPOKES-NO-HANDLING-FEE-/200859889266?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2F i.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D2008598 89266%26_rdc%3D1&nma=true&si=VloPSRDnGSj%252FTIpOWeN55CNDEHo%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I have about 8 of the FTE cars, so not enough left to keep giving away...that's why I'm stocking up on the city cars. They look good enough to pass for the original...as far as an 8 yr. old is concerned.

While I appreciate the constructive criticism, please help me understand something. You keep referring to the "details". What details? They are all the same sculpt, just different colour. In fact, the 2010 versions in silver, gold, and black...are the same deco, just different paint (and interior colour). The 2011 Faster Than Ever, 2014 HW City, 2014 Jukebox (New Wave)...all the same sculpt, therefore all the same detail.

The Time Machine 'conversion' was built off of this same sculpt. So the base car is the same. All Time Machines are the same, just different deco/. The Time Machine 2 has different 'vent' piece; plutonium chamber vs Mr Fusion

The only one that is a different sculpt is the RLC version. Errors from the Mainline version were 'corrected' for the RLC version, while more detail was added to the interior since the doors open.

Not trying to be rude, just trying to understand. Thanks.

By the way, it is standard practice to re-release castings. So, as long as the license/contract is still good and we get the approval from DMC, do not be surprised if there are more Hot Wheels DeLoreans in the future.

Sorry man! I just saw this post. I know they're the same car, don't get me wrong. I really dig the satin gold finish on the gold car and wish the others had a similar sheen - the silver cars were a little more clear-coat-silvery and it just didn't have that "wow" factor that the gold did. It also seemed that there were some detail elements on the HW City car that weren't painted as well as some of the others - the DMC logo on the front grill, for example.

I know it's insanity to nitpick something that you buy for $0.99 by the case so I am also not trying to be rude by mentioning any of this! Honest :)

Ah, now I get it. No worries.

About the graphics. New Models get more money for graphics, so the 2010 versions have more deco Think of the car as having five sides (front, back, left, right, top) for graphics to go on. The average car gets about 2-3 decos , so we have to chose what gets graphics (usually only left and right sides). New Models get up to 4.

We have to keep the cost down to meet the $1 price, so the first thing to get cost reduced is usually graphics. This is why the third release (2014 HW City) only has three (left, right, top), not enough to decorate the front and back. The graphics are not really 'missing', just trying to keep the cost down.

Also, this car is more expensive to make because of the 'extra' Louvre piece, due to material and labour. The next thing to be cost reduced on this will be the louvre. It may be 'combined' with the body. Then, we either leave it body colour or use up one deco to 'paint' it. I am hoping it never comes to that. I made it an extra piece to get that colour break, and bonus opening feature.

Thanks.

I didn't do the shopping cart thing, but those boxes were deep so in order to search well, I would have needed a cart. So here's a "state of the collection" shot - I needed to move some stuff around in the closet and it was a good time for it :)

Inventory consists of:
1 Stock SunStar
1 Stock Welly
1 BTTF I Welly
1 BTTF II Welly
1 BTTF III Welly
1 "eBay Special" Lego model
1 official Lego model
2 Hallmark ornaments (1 is at work and not shown)
6 Hot Wheels "Cinema" BTTF Time Machine
1 Hot Wheels "RLC" standard
6 Hot Wheels "HW City"
1 Hot Wheels "Long Card" BTTF 2011 HW Premiere
4 Hot Wheels "Long Card" BTTF 2011 New Models
1 Hot Wheels "Short Card" Black
1 Hot Wheels "Long Card" Black
1 Hot Wheels "Long Card" Gold
7 Hot Wheels "Faster Than Ever"
1 Hot Wheels "Boulevard"
2 Hot Wheels "Short Card" BTTF (bought these at the Hondos Center on Crete, if ALEXKOS is reading)

Loose cars are:
2 Hot Wheels DMC-12 (the original silver one, don't have one in the package though)
1 Hot Wheels Black
1 Hot Wheels Gold
1 Hot Wheels Faster Than Ever
1 souvenir time machine that I got at the entrance to the BTTF ride at Universal Studios way back in the day. It's total crap but the sentiment is there.

Didn't realize quite how many of these I had until now. And this is after giving away quite a few at car shows and such. Oh well, someone's gotta keep HW interested in making more!

While there are some robotics involved, there is a lot more hands on labour than one would think, even the Mainline ($1) cars.

Unfortunately, the process is proprietary and confidential. A lot of toy (and other consumer product) companies deal with some very sensitive licences. So, no cameras are allowed in the facilities. But, if you watch enough "How It's Made", you can figure out the process.

I am sure there are some bootleg videos out there, but nothing official.

Went hunting for HW cars this weekend. Only found this variety in the WalMart stores. Target, Toys-R-Us had none. All together I picked up 22 of them so don't try looking for them on the north side of Houston and Spring and Conroe.

I used the basket swap method and when we were done, my son and I just lifted the basket and dumped the rest back in the box. I plan on giving some away to special people at car shows and if someone special get's a ride or a photo with Della.

Will be looking for more!

I also went out this weekend and hit both Wal*Marts, Big KMarts and Toys-R-Us reasonably local to me.
None of the stores I hit had any bins full of cars, only ones hung on racks.

Not a D was found. :bawling:

I'll try them all again next weekend.

So I ordered a couple from the UK.

To my VERY PLEASANT surprise, Dangermouse was thoughtful enough and kind to send me a couple off his collection. Not many can say that:)

Walmart is a lost cause until after Christmas anyway. The thing is Walmart puts out these huge cardboard boxes, apporx. 3'x4'x4' tall. Sometime divided into 3 sections, sometimes not. ALL of the new arrivals get poured into this big box and there is no way to look through them unless you just start digging and making a spectacle of yourself. Now multiply me by all the other people looking for some certain car and you get where I'm going with this....they are all bent all to crap. Some of the boxes are so bent up and torn they will not even hold a shape(I bet the collectors love this) As far as I'm concerned, this is just a lazy way to display your product, but most of these will be bought up for stocking stuffers, etc. so the box condition is not important to a 6 yr. old who will just open it up to play with it. Of all the nerve, playing with toys!

If the actual shelves are low or empty, some of the next batch may or may not make it to the shelf, but the chances that a DeLorean will be up there are low. Now with that said, I have been lucky enough to scoop up about 12 so far. I will sift through the top layers of the "big lazy box" and come up with a few, but I will not dumpster dive to get them. I drive by about 4 different Walmarts a week during my route, so I usually will hit a fresh batch and get to pick through them and come up with one or two.

LOL, I am so not above the "dumpster diving" - I bring a shopping cart over to those 3 huge pillars of cars at the end of the aisle and go through every car in the first one, emptying it into the cart. Then I go through the second one, emptying it into the first. And again with the third. Then I put everything in the cart back into the empty box at the end and go about my business. Never had a weird look from anyone - it's Walmart, for crying out loud. I'm far from the strangest thing going in there... after all, I'm fully clothed.

There were lots of Toyota 2000GT's and Aston Martin DB5's with the 3 I picked up this evening. That makes 8 since Saturday from only two stores. I, too, am not ashamed to rummage through the bins. On Saturday night there was another guy there doing the same thing, looking for IIRC Plymouth Superbirds.

Matchbox has a nice Lotus Europa out too.

The mix of models makes me smile at the fact that an adult car-buff audience appears to be (at least in part) the target market. No 7-year old is gonna know what a 2000GT or a Datsun 510 is. I'm waiting for a Datsun SPL311, myself.

I picked up a few at WM today and they had a couple of cars from this "music" themed line -"Soull" and "Rock" iirc. No New Wave unfortunately but they must be coming.

These were listed at an exorbitant $1.97 and hanging on pegs rather than in the bin with the 97c riff-raff.

Decided to get out of the house the other night with my wife and son. First Walmart - nothing. Second Walmart - only one. Stopped by Target for something else and went to the HotWheels section - found TWO! Third and final Walmart - found SIX and a Superbird :) It's funny to think about how many stinking Walmarts are within a short drive to me. I'd recommend not overlooking Target as I found some there.

My count on the new one is up to ten. I'm hoarding them to give away but if you're dying for one I'd only charge you shipping. That said, I think this wave is still making it to retail. Walgreens saves their boxes for the holidays and they're now just stocking the new JJprise.

Kmarts have had new hot wheels kiosks set up with seasonal merchandise, and it never hurts to dig through the dump bin at Target or Walmart. This is where I've found nearly all.

I'm a huge fan of the DeLorean at 1/64ish scale. Get that opening doors version in the Entertainment series. Please? Please!

James

http://store.delorean.com/images/rlc_cars2.jpg

In going through the RLC cars that we have here, I recognized a few that match VINs I recalled off the top of my head, and thought I'd put a list together of the serial numbers we have in case someone wants to request a number that matches their VIN or has some other significance to them.

I know that Julee has ~48 or so that are NOT shown here, but I've suggested that she may want to create a similar list for her stock, as well. As yet, no other dealer has these, thought some will go to California in the next few days or so.

If you want to order any off the list below, call us or order online (http://store.delorean.com/p-10435-hot-wheels-delorean-red-line-club-edition.aspx) and specify the number you want. I'll update the list periodically, but they're all subject to prior to sale.

Barry, are you using an iPhone as the camera here?

Reason I ask is because I had the same problem with my iPhone while taking photos. It would display correctly on the screen but not after you put it on the computer or into a website/social media site.

I found that if you are using the camera feature with the phone on it's side, and then you are using the side mounted physical volume buttons as your camera shutter button, it displays it upside down if those volume buttons are up. When I started taking photos with the phone rotated 180 degrees and the volume buttons now facing down, it stopped being a problem. Pretty iStupid if you ask me, but that's what managed to fix it.

This is not an official release. It is a fan made custom that was sold or given away at the Mexico Convention. While there are official Convention Cars for various conventions around the world, the DeLorean has yet to be used as a Convention Car. I cannot believe someone paid that much for it.

For those looking for more Hot Wheels DeLoreans, there is a new release that should be hitting the stores soon. This one comes in red. It is the same graphics as the current dark grey version (HW City) out there, but in red with black stripes and white accent marks. There are a few on ebay being sold (illegally obtained) by factory workers. Or, you can just wait a few weeks and get it at the stores.

So, here's a question. Why is it that there always seems to be a shortage of DeLoreans on the shelf? There's never a lack of Corvettes or Lotuses or the fantasy cars.... Are there simply less DeLoreans made? Are there really people in every single market snapping up *only* DeLorean models to flip on eBay?

That's a hell of a lot of trouble to go through for a 5 buck, (at best considering ebay and PP fees) profit.

What I don't get is the people who open then, then sell them..or even better, the people who paint them and stick decals on them and try and sell them...or worse, the people who actually buy them.

LOL, well I agree with you there. I just don't get the scarcity. When I do get it in my head to go through the bins of them at the store, it seems like I constantly toss aside the same pile of rejects. So there's definitely fewer in my experience and I'm just curious if it's a lower production or a higher demand :)

Yep, that's a factory error. That car might be worth something, I see "factory error" ones on ebay all the time for exorbitant prices. Not sure if anyone has ever sold one, but they list for lots :)

Here's an example of a factory error, Hotwheel; On Christmas Eve my son, said, "Dad, Sorry I couldn't get you a DeLorean, so here..." I replied, " Where'd you get it at?" He said, ... at school, at "Santa's Workshop". "Thanks son!"

After pounding a few more beers, I kept checking out the paint scheme and all and said, "Damn! That's one bad ass ride!!! WTF*&@%! They didn't paint like that in the 1940's and that's an f'n 60's car!?! Oh hell-no-WT%$#@?!" LOL! See pic...

I was thinking "wow, that looks nice." and then "wow, not 160 dollars nice." I'm too cheap to buy that. I'll stick to my dollar Hot Wheels.

That's nothing; Hot Wheels has a Back to the Future 30th Anniversary Edition DeLorean Time Machine scheduled for next year, with a price tag of $340.99! No details or specs on it yet, but I'm going to assume it's capable of transforming into all four different versions of the Time Machine.

Overall, I'm quite impressed. Look at the stitching on the leather seats inside. Pretty well detailed. And the stainless looks really well done as well, a nice brushed look to it. I can only hope that Hot Wheels will do a stock DMC-12 at 1:18 scale at some point. Just by comparison with this Time Machine version, it looks a million times better than the Sunstar's.

On a different note, is DMC Texas (or its affiliates) selling the new Hot Wheels DMC's with the Pinstripe, the Red Car and the New Wave versions? I'm up here in Canada, and neither Toys R' Us, Target or Walmart seem to be getting them. If not DMC, is anyone selling them?

The body sculpt on that Hot Wheels looks loads better than the SunStar model. The front fender area of the Suntar is all out of proportion.

Went by Walmart for a few things and decided to pop in o the HW section to see if the New Waves were in yet. Dug for a few minutes and I swear I was on my last handful before calling it and I turned over a red car. I wasn't even expecting to see the Reds in this soon and I almost didn't catch it. That compelled me to keep digging get and I got a total of 5 reds and an extra silver leftover. I never noticed that there were no front or rear details on the last few batches.

I am getting ready for a new model project in the next few weeks, but before I start, I think I'm going to try and put fiber optic lights on one of these things...just to see if it can be done.

I've been searching for Hot Wheels DeLoreans for well over a year now.
It seems there are as rare here as Real ones.?
I've only found one, and I had to drive 25+ miles to find it.?
(Although my son bought me one around 6 years ago because he knew I wanted a real one).

The two New Waves I found recently had 2012 on their cards. I'm not sure if that was just when they were printed or if they were a 2012 release. The stores around me are reorganizing their Hot Wheels isles. Today I saw 3 random cars on twenty something empty pegs and no dump box in sight.

In the past 48 hours my travels have taken me by 5 different Walmarts. I have yet to find a New Wave car. In fact I haven't even seen any more reds. Maybe those 5 red cars I got last week was a fluke. I have only picked up a few gray city stragglers but that's it. I'm beginning to think the Walmarts around here do not carry the New Wave stuff cars.

PS. If there hasn't been a member of the month yet, my vote is for awildermode (I think that's his user name). I think he is the driving force behind the Delorean HW car to begin with...or at least a huge part of it.

The ones I found were in a huge box left over from the Christmas times. Some Walmarts have gone back to normal but the ones that still have the crate box have the best chance of producing,(probably because when they get a supply in, most if not all get dumped in the big box). I get a little excited when I see a row of HW's sitting on top still in packing formation because I know there is at least one DeLorean in there. The gray ones I got looked to have been picked over so they will be first on the give-away stack. It's hard to not buy a DeLorean HW when you see it, even if the card is a little bent.

I know I have said it before but I don't see how anyone could be a HW collector and not make it a full time hobby, (and spend a huge sum of $$). Think about how much time we spend chasing ONE model. Now think about how many different models come out, different colors, lines, special editions, online exclusives, etc. Not to mention the research and catalog time once you get all those cars home. I'm not knocking it, everyone needs and deserves a hobby, but it really is a commitment.

After reading this thread earlier, I went to my local walmart to see if the reds were in. There was no dive-box (again) and the ones on the pegs were so jammed together like bricks in a wall (top to bottom and side-to-side) that you just couldn't search through them without them all falling off.

Found one of the recent silvery grey ones and that's it :(

(Picked up 5QT of Mobil 1 syn for my DD for $25 though, so not a completely wasted trip)

I picked up two reds today at wally-hell. Found a new wave last week in the clearance section. Locally, all the new waves are gone. Most of the store I've been too have put them all on clearance or their usual peg slot is completely missing now.

I finally ordered a RLC Delorean off eBay last week and its awesome. I HATE the $30 price, but the car is beautifully done. Now if they would just make one in the RLC body with a brushed body finish.

Ive got many of the silver ones that was released recently from Walmart, a few grey ones, 10 gold, 10 black, many BTTF, and 2 of the other BTTF in the movie packing, one red .. best of all i have one pre-release from Delorean facebook page, that i won off a post drawing about a year or so ago. i kept the packing and i think there is a small letter in the envelope too.. I wish it was signed by Espey and Wynne, but it wasnt. I had planned on giving out the hotwheels silvers to kids who admired the car at my discretion when i took my D to car shows. THen I thought about selling them at the car shows, but not sure if they will allow that or not. I'm sure I will give a few away to kids and maybe that experience memory will last a lifetime.

They do bring the most on ebay but that's compared to the normal HW lines. IDK why that is. Maybe there were less made than it's successors. Others like the RedLine collectors, Boulevard, New wave, etc. bring better money. I have only been able to source one Boulevard car and I bought one RL from DMCMW. Still looking for a New Wave.

For hot wheels collectors I think "premiere" or "new models" earns it a special status in that it's the first time the tooling has been created/used. Mattel has to crank out a new one dollar toy, and there is more detail budgeted for the first versions. Specifically, all sides of the silver gold and black versions have full detail all around. Later versions did not, a reality of a long term cost effective solution. The recent releases do not have a painted grill, DMC emblem or tail lights. The silver version was the first, and like a first edition of book, holds more value.

IIRC Manson, the designer, did a great presentation at DCS2012 and explained the blue window is an homage to the original hot wheels DMC12. It was really Proto 1, rejected by JZD before the car was updated for production. This tooling had already been created and was used anyway after modification. It became the hot wheels original, the Turismo.

If you got to have just one, the all-metal Boulevard with real riders (rubber tires) and turbine wheels is where it's at IMO. All of the others have plastic chassis. Still waiting for the RLC opening doors version to show up in another line.

It seems that for a few months this year Walmart, Target, etc. had Hotwheels DeLoreans but then they just disappeared. Which makes me think they stopped making them. Which makes me think they probably rotate what cars they produce, and then produce them in batches. Does anyone know how often DeLoreans are produced, and is there any rhyme or reason to when they come out (e.g., every spring, every other year, etc.?) Thanks.

Our resident HW expert will hopefully elaborate.

Is that me?

Production of cars depends on the mix. In general, there are 16 mixes for every year (Mixes A-R, omitting I and O).

Sometimes, the cars will overlap mixes. Something in Mix A will most likely be in Mix B...possible in Mix C. It all depends on the the quota of the car versus the rest of the mix/line.

All the cars in the mixes are produced around the same time. Take the 2014 version of the DeLorean, there were deco versions (same sculpt as all the other ones). First there was dark grey, all of them were produced within a few weeks and put in Mix A/B (for example). This is why you will see a bunch of them in the stores, as the 'current' Mix is A/B. Once the current Mix is C+, then the dark grey DeLorean begin to 'disappear'.

Fast forward to Mix J/K (for example), there is a red version. Again, they bring out the molds and start making DeLoreans in red. It will be hard to find dark grey ones, but there will be many red ones once the current Mix is J or K.

This is all planned out so you would not see a grey and red DeLorean, or any car of multi-colours, on the peg at the same time. Some cars get up to four colours in a year. The first release of the DeLorean saw silver, gold, and black.

Of course, sometimes Mixes get mixed up. A store or distribution center may have some A-E sitting around at the end of the year. So you may see some early Mixes late in the year. Thisusually happens around this time of year as there is more demand to fill the shelves. While the 2014 DeLoreans are basically gone, you may find some as the store get into older stock.

It gets more complicated than that, but that stuff is beyond my pay scale. I hope that answers your question.

By the way, I see James has over 275 RLC DeLoreans left. This is the one with opening doors. If you want them that is the place to get them. They are sold out long ago on the Hot Wheels Collector site and a bit over priced on eBay. Also, I am not sure if this version will ever be produced again.

This was a Japan only release. Very few were made. The Back to the Future cars were part of a larger line that include other TV and Film cars, mostly entertainment cars from Japanese properties.

Also, while these were branded as Hot Wheels, these were not made by Mattel. These were made by Bandai and distributed by Mattel under the Hot Wheels brand. That is all the information I got from asking around. Believe me, I spent a long time hunting these down at work and trying to get more information on these. This line from Bandai was made before my time and no one at Mattel knew anything about these expect what I just stated.

So, a re-release will have to go through legal mumble jumble between the Mattel and Bandai, as well as Universal...and who ever else was involved in the initial deal. Who knows, the tools may not even exist.

I have to admit, Bandai does the best toys around when it comes to Manga/Movie stuff. I bought a re-issued Macross VF-1J a few years ago which I had in my younger years that got destroyed. Been offered some good money for it being highly collectable. And the same then with these Bandai BTTF series, not cheap on Ebay if you find them. I'm sure the tooling will be around, can't see the Japs dumping the moulds as they did re-issue the Macross ones. Who knows, they may start secretly remaking them for next year! *wishing*

Tons of them at a local Walmart. I skipped then but I did buy another red delorean lol...

The Red ones have long gone from the stores around my area, maybe over 2 months ago. Just noticed lately, if you see any of them, just got to buy them straight away or else, you will miss out.

Like the Knight Rider Hot Wheels, bought everyone I came across and total, I think I only have like 5 of them.

Nabbed four of these today at the local Walley World. It made me almost as giddy as when I found a Matchbox Lotus Europa. I think it's neat how many of the cars they choose (like the Datsun 510 and Cunningham C4R) are so obviously only of interest to grown-up car buffs.

In "related" news, look what I picked up today:

Does anyone want to trade some Deloreans for James Bond's Lotus Europa? I've got five.

When I'm at Car Shows, Polite little kids that, get excited, ask questions or talk about the car get a Hot Wheels DeLorean. Brats that jump in the car, run their fingers down the side and act snotty don't get anything.

Which DeLoreans would you consider trading for? I have many spares of some, only singles of others. But a Europa would be cool to have.

This is the next release of the Hot Wheels DeLorean. Should be out in a few months.

33724

It is based on the Turismo. I have mentioned the Turismo before, so I will spare you the long boring story.

33726

I will note that someone at DCS2014, I forgot who, mentioned that the next DeLorean deco should be a homage to the Turismo.

Also, for the Back to the Future fans, there will be a new Time Machine. The 'wheels' are flipped down for hover mode. There are smaller 'hidden' wheels on the bottom so it can still roll. This should be out around the same time, early summer.

33727

These will both part of the Mainline, and will retail for about $1.

I will update with more info when I am able to release it. Stay tuned.

I can't believe I complaining about a hot wheels DeLorean...

The next version has decorations based on the original retool of Proto 1 and will have a treasure hunt counterpart.

What a waste. How does recreating a generic tampo originally contrived to make the toy even less like a DeLorean do anything for the new tooling? Hot wheels had already designed a DMC stripe for their original 78 tooling.
http://swiftysgarage.net/topic/385934/1/

Don't get me wrong I love the DeLorean hot wheels. What owner isn't hoarding these things to give away to kids at car shows? But they do look terribly disappointed when I hand them a red one.

To answer a few questions since my last post.

- I am a Hot Wheels Designer and 3D Modeler. In short, I made it the push to bring the DeLorean into the Hot Wheels Line. Basically, you can blame me for making you roam the toy isles for the past five years.

- It is standard practice to release Hot Wheels in different colours and decos. While you will see vehicles based on colours and decos of their full size counterparts, more often you will see 'wacky' colours and decos.

- Both Super Treasure Hunt and Basic versions of the DeLorean (deco based on Turismo) should be in stores around June. Because we all know that June 81 builds are the best. ;) Anyways, the availability of these will vary depending on your area and distribution.

There are some Super Treasure Hunts available on eBay, right now. These are being sold by the factory workers (illegally, not that it matters to most) in hopes to cash in on 'early sales'. You could spend the $30 and get it now, or wait until a month and get it for about $10 on eBay...or $1, if you can find it in the stores.

The difference between the Super TH and Basic version:
Basic - Standard HW. Painted metal body, plastic chassis, plastic interior, plastic window, standard plastic wheels. Left and right side graphics
Super TH - Paint on body is different process, more of a metallic/candy-like finish, similar to Spectraflame. Chassis, interior, and window pieces are plastic. Wheels are plastic hub with rubber tires. Left, right, and top deco.
Note that the opening louvre feaure has been cost reduced (I have talked about this). The louvre is now part of the window piece. One little 'surprise', the windows have also been modified to the down/open position. Both versions are about $1 retail. Secondary market prices will vary from $1-3 for Basic, and $5-10 for Super TH. Prices will fluctuate as castings become more 'rare'.

- There are some Hot Wheels Back to the Future releases for later in the year. Again, I will mention that as soon as it is clear to do so.

If you have questions, I will answer what I can (and allowed to). Thanks!

Now there's barely any Hot Wheels there, and of course no DMC's.

Timebender, I've noticed this as well. Used to be plenty of cars on display everywhere you go plus at least one additional dump bin display. Now, there is barely any. According to a toys r us store employee I spoke to, they have no control over what the manufacturer ships - they sell all they get but can't get all they want.

This year, no dump bins and the shelf displays are always blowed out. The store personnel say they get what they get and its not up to them. What gives?

My apologies, I just saw this.

I am not in sales or distribution, so take this with a block of salt. The store personnel is correct, they get what they get. This is true for most product in stores.

In general, displays such as dump bins are the decision of the buyer (Wal-Mart, Target, Pep Boys). If they feel they need these displays, the product is ordered about a 6-12 months in advance. Sometimes they under order, this is why you see empty pegs and lack of dump bins. Sometime they over order, and you see old product in bins and pegs.

It is usually the store's responsibility to order more when they feel they are low. If the order is late, they may not get order in time...empty bins and pegs. If they order too much, you can experience lots of new product this month. Then as they get sold, you start seeing older product...which can look like 'no new product'. Stores generally order around the same time. So, every store is 'fighting' to get the same shipments.

Distribution factors in as well. I believe Texas is the main hub for Mattel product. Everything goes there when it ships in from the California port. From Texas, the product is trucked to buyer's main distribution centers. From there, they go to smaller distribution centers...then it goes to the individual stores.

Now, before all that...the buyer's order from the manufacturer. This generally determines quota. Once the orders are in the manufacturer makes only enough to satisfy those numbers to avoid storage and the shame of the clearance aisle. Remember Green Lantern toys? Well, we made too much and they bought too much....and no one wanted it. Sometimes not enough product is made and not enough is orders. In extreme cases, this causes the craze like Tickle Me Elmo, too little product with too much demand from customers. There is no way to just 'make more' in time. It takes months to make enough for a shipment.

It is complicated and way beyond my pay scale, and I have rambled long enough. Again, apologies for not catching this sooner. I hope this information helps.
