I'm ready to make my first parts order, I'm not sure if it's welcome to give names of suppliers on the forum so I'll just say that a few days ago I tried to order online: 2 lip seals for drive shafts at tranny, 2 O-rings and a column steering bushing. I was shopping online at THE PLACE to order and when it was time to get an estimate of shipping fees : It gave $85 :what_the:
Yes $85 to ship items that could almost fit in an envelope!!! I Tried contacting them explaining politely that I was planning to restore my car over the months see years and that I would heve to make many orders but If their shipping fees a so expensive I would think to buy somewhere else. I never got an answer.
I tried again at a second place in Texas too (oops) by filling an online order and the final step wrote me that they would contact me to give me the amount with shipping fees include but again no answer :(
What do I do wrong?

If you're unhappy with the shipping and/or customer service, find another vendor. There's a fair amount of them out there all over the U.S. and beyond.

Call Julee at DMC Midwest. They are very familiar with shipping to Canada. I have my stuff sent US Post. Most of the time I manage to avoid all taxes and brokerage fees. The largest brokerage fee you pay with US Post is $5. If you go UPS or FedEx expect to pay a lot more...sometimes it is as much as the value of the items!!!

Hi,
I'm also from Quebec and this is my experience so far with vendors:
DMC Midwest has an excellent customer service they don't just sale parts, they will help you by giving advice and support.
DPI is also has great customer support and it is great to see all this effort being made to creat new and improve parts for Delorean.
I also called DMC Texas once and I have no complaints.
I have to say though that I had a bad experience with one DMC dealer wich I bought parts from. They always asked me why I want to buy this or that. I don't know if you seen my car but it was "badly injured" by the previous owner. I had to buy parts that are not usually replaced because for example my door harness were cut (and missing the other half), my quarter panels were had cutout for air scoop etc...
So when ask about a used quarter panel for sale on there website they gave me attitude and told me that I would have to buy before knowing the shipping cost. And then I receive a email from them by mistake that was saying: who is this guy? does he even have a car etc... So I sent a friendly replied saying why I need the panel but never got a answer since so I repaired the panel myself.
Sometimes when shipping big parts that are too big or when broker fees are too high, it is cheaper to ship to www.freeportforwarding.com so you can pick it up there.

DMCMW is amazing. What I really respect from them - they'll actually talk you out of buying a part if you truly don't need it. THAT...... is some customer service, and I have gladly been doing business with them nearly exclusively for 2 years with minimal hiccups.

That's unbelievable! I can't understand why ANYONE who is in the business of selling would be that rude! Do these people not understand that their livelihood and that of their co workers depends on their relationship with the customer? For those at Special T and DMCH...the customer is the guy with the big bag of money he wants to give you. You DO NOT GIVE HIM ATTITUDE YOU IGNORANT FOOLS! A business can choose to either make political statements to their customers and question their beliefs or they can make money. You can either do one well or both poorly...choose wisely.
PS: To answer your question, just call Julee at DeLorean Motor Company Mid-West and you will never look back.

+1 to DMCMW/Dave and Julee. They are the closest to the Canadian border and are more familiar with the intricacies involved. Plus they are possibly the nicest people on the planet. But you do have to call them directly to get the parts/service - if you order from DeLorean.com it will come from Houston, which may not be as capable of working directly with you.
As for that second vendor you tried to use, with the "I will contact you with shipping info" form.... we ALL know who that is, and you won't have to look hard to find opinions there...

I usually order all my parts from Dave/Julee at DMC Midwest. Send them an email with all your infos and parts needed and they will reply with a detailed invoice. But yes shipping is killing us here in Québec and Canada.
Some parts I order from Special T, sometimes less expensive or special parts that DMC doesn't have. But you HAVE to call him, if not he will forget !
Never had the chance yet to do business wth DPI. But I should this year.

For large orders from a DMC franchise, fill out the form as if you were ordering through Houston (or use the Wish list) then capture the screen shots and email that to your DMC franchise. Josh's (DPI) website has a few weird glitches, but it does work.

Josh has some excellent alternative products and the best prices on a lot of parts. Having said that, most vendors will price match.

OK for DPI thank's. I could see that yesterday evening. I placed my first order with him. More than excellent service. I'm sure it won't be my only order there  And shipping fees are fair!!! :)

I do all my orders with Toby at DMCNW and Josh at DPI. I live within 2 hours from Toby's shop which is a huge advantage for service. Both Josh and Toby offer great service and often make themselves available on "off" hours to help solve problems or take an order. Good luck getting that at your local Ford dealer.

Each vendor has their strength's and weaknesses. Some are better at getting some kinds of parts and some have better customer service. It is great that as Delorean owners we have choices. Some orphan cars have only 1 or no supplier which brings a whole different set of problems. Some vendors specialize in custom and performance. Some offer NOS and others have new stock. Some vendors have a lot of "depth" (back-up to customer support) and others may be a "One Man Show". The very best thing you can do is to patronize each vendor as you can to support the community as a whole. The more vendors we have the more competition and that is the best thing for us as consumers. Just remember every vendor can have a bad day and each one has had their share of dissatisfied customers. Usually happens because the customer was not properly informed as to expectations. All of the vendors have been known to go "above and beyond" to try to satisfy their customers. Sometimes there is just no pleasing someone who has been mishandled. Even in the worst cases it is never exclusively the vendor's fault.
The only part about dealing with official DMC vendors (such as DMCNW or DMCMW or DMCCA) is that each one is very different as far as customer service and attitude. Houston needs to have better controls in place that helps them be a bit more uniform. I understand that they are each running their own respective businesses, but there shouldn't be a situation where someone orders from one across the country because they don't like dealing with the one closest to them.
The choices should come down to DMC or DPI or Special-T, etc. The issue should not expand to having to choose between DMCNW, DMCMW, DMCCA, DMCFL, DPI, Special-T etc. All of the DMC vendors should be unified more than just having the same parts and the name on the door. The individual DMC vendors don't need to compete with each other.
I guess it comes down to expertise and knowledge as well as just basic service and courtesy. Just recently I had my car worked on at one DMC vendor then took it to another DMC vendor for something unrelated. The second was amazed that the first did certain things to the car (or didn't mention that others actually needed to be done). This disparity between the two vendors was surprising.
Again, I realize they are actually independent businesses under the same franchise, but look at any other franchise model. If there are two Subway sandwich shops in town that operate as independent franchisees, would you expect a different experience depending on which you chose?
As to the general rudeness to some customers by some vendors, I totally agree that they need to realize the customer is who's paying their electric bill. Plus, with such a specialized market such as ours (with a theoretical maximum number of customers (~6500)) you would think they would work even harder to take care of each one.

Houston needs to have better controls in place that helps them be a bit more uniform.
Houston is not exactly the last place, but its pretty far down on the list of vendors who should be "setting the bar" on customer service. In other words, thank God the Houston DOES NOT have better control over the other vendors to keep them more uniform.
Again, I realize they are actually independent businesses under the same franchise, but look at any other franchise model. If there are two Subway sandwich shops in town that operate as independent franchisees, would you expect a different experience depending on which you chose?
Well that depends, does John H. own the franchise that the model is based upon? Would you like 7 Special T's out there and 7 John H's out there? To a lesser extent, would you even want all the vendors to have the same "exacting standards" as DMCH? I'm not saying DMCH is bad, what I am sayingis there are vendors that are SO MUCH BETTER than DMCH, and I really don't want them to change
I personally like it when the free market makes the choice. What you are suggesting is that one place set the standard, and everyone else model their franchise off that business of which some would sell their DeLorean before they ever handed over one dollar to a sub par vendor.
Excuse me, but I ordered the 6" cold cut combo, but I haven't received it yet
WHAT!!!! WELL BOO HOO, HERE YOU GO
This isn't what I ordered, this is a meatball sub on lettuce with pickles

I wonder if all us quebec owners should order our parts together to save on shipping. We could organize shipping times like fall or spring. We would save so much on shipping and other BS fees the govt and couriers throw in.

I really don't know all the rules about shipping to Canada but in most countries there are companies called "consolidators" who handle orders and put them together to save shipping and handling fees. Maybe you could work with a restoration shop locally who orders parts all the time and can help. A bulk buy can be especially useful for instance with struts. And if you buy enough you can negotiate a deal with the vendor too.
