Delorean wont start

HI my delorean had been running fine. I started it and ran it for about 7 min then I heard a loudish suction noise from the engine

(i am guessing it was the air thing on the CIS thats below the air filter) the engine then spluttered and stopped

i managed to drive it into the garage and stopped the engine (well its spluttered to a stop) i gave it throttle but it would not revv)


I really dont know what is wrong has something in the bosch jettronic system stopped working as now it wont start

yes i have fuel at the injectors as i pulled one out and turned her over and fuel came out) i will try and start it she will fire a tiny but but it just wont start



I am really stumped i have done the trick with the fuel pump and jumpered the relay to make it go all the time (just for a test_ still no luck)

it was running really well with newish plugs and i have her tuned up real good any advice would be great :-)

Have you checked that you are still getting spark at the plugs?

its just the loudish suction noise from the fuel system that really stood out, as soon as that started i couldnt give it any gas the engine just died

Could the noise have been a vacuum leak?

i am not familiar with the sound it makes when that happens

There are some half-assed vacuum lines back there. The one that runs to the brake booster is large and I don't recall ever seeing proper hose clamps holding it together.

Try jumping the rpm relay and see if the sound occurs with the pump running.

Keep a fire extinguisher on hand.

Check that the frequency valve on the R/H valve cover is buzzing when the motor is running. Check that the fuel pump is running.

Last year I had a similar issue. The problem turned out to be the RPM relay. Installed was an early inventory OEM relay that had been installed several years prior. The problem was caused by a TWO point relay inside the RPM relay - I believe it would be called a dual SPST relay. Any way, the pump was controlled by one contact and the frequency valve by the other. The frequency valve contact became trashed and lost contact. The pump would run but no frequency valve. I could get a sloppy idle (after an also sloppy start) but no engine response from throttle movement.

I installed a new RPM relay (one contact in it - SPST) and now everything works great.
