Re did the grounds again, trying to get rid of the engine whine through the speakers. Got it down to barely noticable when the stereo is off. The only thing else is the power from the pre amp eq. I got it to where you can barely notice it, so I guess it will have to do.
Currently have the front fascia off the car and in my workshop. Just patched a small crack/gouge/hole that has been there since day one. It's not really noticeable in casual looking since it is just under the black bumper portion on the driver side. If you step back or squat down you see it. I am using the epoxy-like product from Bondo to do it. So far so good, it's setting up. I will sand it down and I have the Dupli brand primer and "precision grey" paint to paint the entire fascia. I figured that it was worth a shot at doing it myself before taking it to a pro. As they say, the secret is in the prep so I'll sand it, wipe it, tape it and shoot. Since the black parts are simply unpainted plastic, they'll get the real fine sanding afterwards to get them smooth and uniform in color. They are in good shape as it is. At the same time I have my eyebrow fix drying. I used thin flat steel bar that I covered in POR15 so they won't rust. Beveled an edge a bit, covered in epoxy and slipped into the pocket. A few clamps holding the fascia to the bar. I only had minor eyebrowing, so hopefully this will be more of a preventative measure.
Bolted in the idle speed regulator (finally), gave the AC a charge, tracked down my fuel smell problem, and adjusted the idle speed.
Tidied up my relay compartment after years of procrastination.

I'd say the car is running with A/C ON and FAN. It looks like he pulled over on the shoulder to take the photo. Notice the Hazards are ON.
FWIW: That's what my gauge showed when I did the FULL load Voltage check referenced in your thread. DVM indicated 12.01 at idle when my gauge showed the same.
Exactly. I pulled over with the A/C and fans running. Voltage looked fine while driving. I noticed this earlier this summer when sitting in traffic with the A/C on, when I turned off the A/C my voltage was fine. I'm hoping that when I finally install low power fans it will help some with this. Also note the oil pressure is well below driving pressure.
You are very sensitive about everyone's volts Jon. Mine has been getting lower and lower lately, It would scare the hell out of you, But my DVOM confirms I still have good power and great charging volts. My dash grounds are failing again, its time to get serious with them.
I guess I'm the only one with voltage showing on the high side. Mine reads just below the first orange line. My alternator does put out about 14.8 volts but I also have the inertia switch grounded to the frame. That ground will correct your dash gauge up about 0.3 volts.
Added a camera mount because of this bullshit.
Bought a small hacksaw to attempt to cut the FB to install the LED switches, another failure. Not enough room to "hack". Dremel too was too short as well.
Borrowed a new drill bit to "carve" and enlarge the hole to compensate the later switches.
Hmmm, nearly damaged a metal tubing (fuel line?) running along the tunnel, close call. Also found a cable that runs along into the engine compartment underneath the console, wasnt sure what it was .... ? I think it may be something relating to the a/c controls? Or throttle cable?
Just got to vac all the dust and shavings tonight, then a good clean before reinstalling the switches.
Can't remember who had posted before, but said it was clear and hack away.
I saw the looms on either side and the hard line must had been a vacuum one (under the FB) , not one mark amazingly from the drill bit (like Vincent in Pulp Fiction). The other must had been the throttle cable (black and curving its way to the rear bulkhead near the cubby holder).
spent a few hours tonight working on my car. got the center console out, binnacle, dash, a-pillars, and removed the front windshield. got my new parts from houston coming later this week so I should have most it back together this weekend. here some progressAttachment 13157Attachment 13156Attachment 13155Attachment 13154Attachment 13153Attachment 13152Attachment 13151Attachment 13150
Impressive for one evening of work! It took me a couple nights to remove my interior when I was replacing my A/C evaporator. Probably didn't help that I had to label every screw and nut so I knew where it went...
Today I entered my car in a show at the General Mills Lodi plant. I won first place in the 1973-2012 category! Less impressive when you take into account that it was a small car show only open to General Mills employees, but still fun to walk away with an award. Below are a couple pictures from the event.

awesome to get the award
Drove the D back to work after lunch. Temp gauge stays right below the 1/4 mark. Brakes had not heating problem. When I got home I checked the charging voltage at the jump terminal with engine at idle was 14.4 volts. I will check how much it goes up when it's cold.
Had a guy behind me at a stop sign taking a flash photo of my car.
What's your ambient temp there? Do you mean the mark between 100 and 220?
Just wondering if Ed's radiator really makes that huge of a difference :) Mine lives juuuust a hair above that mark, normally not quite enough to fire up the fans. But in the heat lately (91 out right now) it's been sitting more like halfway between that mark and the 220, especially with the Max A/C on.
removed both door lock mechanisms from the driver's side door, completely "ungunked" them and re-installed.
Dude, those doors.....man....
I had my D shipped to DMCMW and it arrived there yesterday. I'm looking to have the stage 2 engine upgrade completed. They also started the full inspection on it yesterday.
Installed the GoWesty illuminated cigarette lighter.

I'm glad to hear you had a great experience with yours being serviced there. I feel like my car is in above average condition but I know of several items that need taken care of. I'm just crossing my fingers that the list from the inspection report doesn't brake my bank and I stlill have money to get the engine upgrade completed. Lol...I'm trying to get the car as right as possible and figured they would be the best people to help me get it that way.
went to a garage to fix what i thought was a serious problem with my left front wheel. Turns out the front drivers side shock dropped through the spring. seems there never was a bushing put on the top of the upper control arm and was missing a top washer. So what I thought was going to be a huge issue ended up just being a 35 buck repair. Phew :)
Over past week I installed upgraded power window motors (now silky smooth and silent), replaced door lock solenoids with Toby's actuators (solenoids were fine so no change, just the assurance I wont have problems), installed door release actuators ready for future (or the past!) security system, and while at it traced and split off the redundant solenoid ground ready for the Wings-A-Loft.
Unfortunately shakedown cruise #16 was a disaster - couldn't get more than a few seconds down the road without stalling, sometimes unable to start again for lengths of time, and while I did manage to limp back into the driveway that was her final death and I couldn't get going again even to enter my garage. During this aborted test I quickly took the rear parcel shelf apart and tried fiddling with the harness where I had done the ground rewiring for above actuators, and did notice I could cause an immediate stall without attempting to drive further down the road/home by wiggling the wires leading to the engine bay. Without touching anything it seemed to happen whenever there was a bump in the road.
Figuring I had disturbed the 31 year old connectors when working with the wiring harness behind the relay compartment, I removed each of the plugs in the engine bay that fed off that rear harness and used a screwdriver to slightly bend each socket in the plugs to make a tighter fit. Had a similar issue with faulty front park/indicators when I disturbed the front harness to rewire my front perimeter lights and doing this to the sockets down there fixed it.
Started straight away, headed back out for shakedown cruise #17, went over the bumpiest streets I could find (not hard in this state!), and couldn't fault her. Phew :)
It was getting really embarrassing driving from downtown OKC where I work at 10pm on a Friday when all the people are out, and 4719 was squealing like a stuck pig.
Got that fixed yesterday, sounds great.
Put another 280 miles on mine this afternoon, In the process I have a new record for fuel temp: 136'F. At about the same time the cap on the coolant bottle shot off, coolant spiked up to 230' in a parking lot, It was a hell of a coolant geyser shooting out on to the louvers. I sorted that out with some water from the a nearby restaurant, then my angle drive cable bracket that mounts to the brake caliper broke off, Not a good day for 1768.:shameful:
I spent pretty much all weekend, working on my car.
started off by re spraying the dash and glove box.
installed new A-pillar trim.
installed new Alpine stereo, with bluetooth and speakers, memphis audio in rears and infinity in fronts
removed all the carpet and cleaned and power washed all the pieces.
installed one seat cover (other will go on on thurs night)
and also installed half the new headliners. never seen the headliners done how I did it so i wanted to see a D would look with them... suede, not the $160 a yard alcantara that lamborghini and ferrari are using
here are a few pics of my progress:

How does the stereo sound?
Sooo much better. Plus I ran the Bluetooth mic through the a-pillar so it won't be seen. I like the wireless Bluetooth audio so no wires anywhere. Plus making and receiving phone calls with my phone still in my pocket.
Went to a cruise night in Davis. Was joined by my wife and Clint with 1768. It was a good time, as always. These cruise-ins are remarkably chill with a good group of regular owners and a mostly respectful and friendly crowd. Plus easy access to great Mexican food afterwards...
Most interesting was the guy who came up to us as we were trying to leave and offered to buy both our cars for cash. I tossed a crazy number out and left, Clint stayed and chatted some more.
Some pics! There were the usual street rods, a really sweet E-type, two Opels that I was fascinated by and many more.

Yeah that was a cruise in, never had anyone seriously offer me that kind of cash for my car, I could sell 1768 and find another D in better shape to continue to fix. But it wouldnt feel right. I would need alot more money to part with my car, we've been through alot.
Sounds like a great event! The guy was serious? How much did he offer? Anything of mine is for sale for the right price. Glad you had a fun day!
