The new DMCH fuel pump/sender unit looks really good but the only problem I have is that I am unable to install the cover: It's hitting the top of the fuel pump. I suspect that my fuel tank may be pushed up a little too far... And the reason for that is that I think I put some of those protective foam strips between the close out plate and the tank during my reno a few years back. Hmmm.....

Are you sure it's pushed down all the way and oriented like the install guide specifies? I had that issue too and it came down to alignment (rotation) of the pump. Another owner had a similar issue and it ended up being that the clamp wasn't installed correctly and the pump was riding on top of it. Worth a look.

Good point, Jon. The fit between the pump and the hole in the tank is very tight. I even put a dab of oil around the lip to get it to slide in. But once I installed the clamp I wasn't 100% sure that the pump was actually fully seated any longer. It's like it wanted to slide back out/up due to the compression. However, the interference between the cover and the connector is too significant for the seating of the pump to be the problem. It needs another inch of clearance. Also, no matter how much I rotated the pump (check the picture, it is rotated in the exact direction the instructions tell you to) the pump connector would still hit the cover. That's why I thought that maybe the tank is just sitting to high up, but I may be wrong...
Your input is much appreciated.
Maybe I'll shoot another one of my award winning videos![]()

This video might also help in troubleshooting, walks through the entire install process, but I've linked to the very end where he installs the cover:

Drove it out to Napa yesterday. Can't wait for CA-12 to be finished, the traffic really takes the fun out of that drive...

Replaced the stock 85MPH speedo with the updated 140MPH version. Interesting that the blue is a bit darker on the reproduction ones:

I also saw another thread where someone painted the needles on the gauges with nail polish and thought that would be interesting. I am the guy that has the ultraviolet LEDs in my doors though, so thought it would be more interesting with a UV reactive paint:

I replaced the illumination incandescent lights with UV LEDs. . .they are a bit week, so I am going to add a few strips of 5050 LEDs at the top of the instrument cluster. This pic is with an external UV light. Will post another when I get the proper UV stuff sorted:

I made it 27,000 miles yesterday! I've put on a little over 9,000 of them since 2008.
