I tried the stereo in our car before we took the battery out. It turned on but no sound came out so I think it may be junk. Even if it isn't junk I would rather box it up and pack it away rather than use it.
So decisions need to be made. Do we stick with a tape player for that full 80s experience or get a modern single DIN head unit with bluetooth and perhaps even a unit that can accept a rear camera, handsfree calling, etc.
Our Miata came with the original stereo in it which has a tape player. We thought it was awesome at first. We even bought a bunch of cassette tapes. But now we never listen to tapes. We usually just listen to the radio and I sometimes wish it had Bluetooth.
Anyone know if the inexpensive Chinese Single DIN stereos loaded with features are any good?

I have a double din Chinese stereo in my truck. I find it hard to work. The instructions are worthless. I have a grand nephew that is good with computers and he got some of the things working, but even he couldn?t get some stuff to work. It seems to work if you know how.

I didn't want to just go home after work and veg out but I also felt guilty working on the car without my wife since we have been doing this together all along so I spent 3 hours sorting out tools, cleaning up, and rearranging the top drawer of my toolbox.
Toolboxes are like garages. No matter what size you may THINK that you need, go bigger because it will be full in no time.

I went with an Alpine non-CD BT head unit - $110. on Amazon. Auto-connect BT for music streaming is great and the microphone for hands-free phone calling is small and discreet fitting perfectly into the gap between the binnacle and console without the need to drill/cut/hack the original material. Luckily my car's PO had the DMCH audio upgrade w/sub so it was easy decision to pop in a modern BT head unit. Plus, the sound quality is improved. I hate radio today and haven't listened to the FM/AM in decades.

What model is that one? Does it look old? I either want one that still looks old or ill just jump up with something with all the bells and whistles so I can have a back up camera etc.

It doesn't look period correct but it's not too flashy like a double-DIN unit. Retro Sound is an option.

Tonight we installed missing washers and bolts on the valve covers. We prepped the crank pulley, put hylomar on the inside of the Speedi-sleeve, then installed it onto the crank pulley. Pretty easy job.

We also assembled the distributor. It seems like no matter how many pictures you take at whatever angle, there is always something you missed. The manual doesn't go into rebuilding the distributor. Pictures of this distributors on line are difficult to find also. I wanted the vacuum advance to be sealed well at the connection to the distributor body so we used gray RTV.
