What have you done to your DeLorean today?

IMHO, even though you cleaned the carb and verified fuel in the carb, it still sounds like no fuel in the cylinders to me (kind of a dry cranking sound). If you had fuel in the cylinders, even with the timing just a little off, slow cranking should have at least tried to fire.

Have you ever considered putting a shot of starter fluid directly into a few cylinders and then try to start it? Even a slow crank should fire a few cylinders. Then you'd know if it was truly a fuel problem or not. If not, must be timing, cause you verified spark.

I heard a couple of cylinders fire when it sped up toward the end. Timing seems to be a good theory. The engine started dying while hot last year, so I replaced the pickup coil in the distributor. Then the engine wouldn't start after I re-installed the distributor. Although I got the engine at TDC (as far as I know), it's possible that I installed the distributor incorrectly.

Cap, plugs, and wires are all good with fewer than 10,000 miles on them. The cause of a weak spark could be due to the fact that my battery has gone practically unused for a year, with the exception of these "trickle-charge and troubleshoot" sessions every so often.

One theory is that I re-installed the distributor 180 degrees off... so tonight I decided to test that theory.

I was having trouble with the turn signal lever, it would not hold in place when I pushed it down (left) so I would just hold it in place. Upon closer examination, the lever itself was blocked by the housing around the column. The housing is installed correctly, or looks to be, so I took a Dremel tool and enlarged the lever opening about 1/8" and now it works perfectly.
Of course, then my low beams wouldn't work---so after reading every single thread here, checking all relays/fuses/switch/etc/etc I finally stumbled upon one thread concerning dirty contacts within the column. Turns out some of the small filings from my Dremel work collected on the low/high contacts. A blasting of compressed air solved the problem.

Removed left front wheel to find the dust cap intact but the angle drive shaft twisted off (I lost speedo/odo/trip 91 miles into the cross country trip and used a GPS app for the remainder); chucked lower speedo cable into drill and ran to 50mph to verify function of speedo/odo/trip. Watched the "Replace angle drive" video on youtube.

Ordered led kit from DMCH; ordered extended convex mirrors from Poland (looking forward to these); ordered angle drive replacement from DMCH.

New louvre struts arrived today! Also, I added a couple of "pro" tools to my toolbox: automatic wire strippers for 10-22 AWG wire, and a cutter/crimper to replace the so-so one I bought at Radio Shack years ago (whose handle broke during an aggressive crimp :P).

Downloaded and installed OneNote 2013 (now free) and set it up to work and sync between all my PC's. My previous version would not sync between PC's.

Why is this DeLorean related? OneNote is where I keep a lot of info related to the DeLorean that I find on the internet. If there is a website I find interesting or something I find here I copy it into OneNote. A great tool.

Volants that I've had for years...not sure what the model is. They were one of the last models they made with printed graphics before they started stamping the logos into the stainless. So I removed all logos and have a perfectly smooth stainless top surface on the skis.

Driving is way smoother now. My steering wheel is not shaking that much anymore. I did not do the rear bearings yet. I think that I will have to disconnect the breaks to get the wheel hub out and that was a project I was not willing to do today.

But I got to my final drive. Replaced O-rings and seals of the axle shafts and put a speed sleeve on each axle flange. Also replaced the copper washers of the drain and filler plug and refilled the final drive. I hope that this took care of my leaky final drive, but we will see.

Oh, and noticed that my blower in the car seems to hit something so it is really getting loud when you switch to fan setting 2 (it was really cold so I got the heater going). This is an other project I am not looking forward to. I have the feeling that I will have to take the dash apart to get to the heater and blower.

The flub-dub or ticking fan noise isn't uncommon. A new fan motor did wonders for ours a long time ago. Your noise source may vary....

Cool, I did not know. I just noticed it and I also think that there is some debris in there. I will put this on my winter projects list and read up on how to remove the blower.

Replaced missing passenger front lower fender brace. Not idea why it was missing but replacement went on easily.

Not a pretty noise. Stalled on the way home which wasn't fun either.

Hehe, I had to check your location to really get that. -8 degrees Celsius in Vancouver, BC and that is really cold here (not comparable to Calgary or Red Deer with -20 and lower).

Will get it resolved, I try not to drive the car in the heat anyway. Just on that day, I was requested to do charity joy rides for kids with cancer, so the car was like a taxi for a few hours which did not help with the temperature building up in the tank.

Last few months have been insanely busy with both my daughters birthdays, their friends birthdays, various events, and now the crazy build-up to Christmas. I've therefore only been able to go on SHORT drives every couple of weeks.

Last Saturday was a different story - the kids were off to a concert I had no interest in so my wife was taking them, giving me a free day. Counted down the days for two weeks, was going to be one almighty big drive - and was almost 40'c that day (I have no aircon yet, but my D loves warm weather) so was going to be awesome.

First thing I quickly took her out to run some errands at the shops. Came home and then did a pre-flight check for my full day of cruising. To my horror I found I picked this up in the morning (and yes, touching it leaked air):

I was devastated, and have spent the past week working out options from repairs to replacement. Ultimately considering their age, wear, treat patterns, and the puncture I today replaced all four. Excuse my youngest daughter - she insisted on being in the picture and supervising the refit :)

The whole wheel gets painted or powder coated. Then they get machine cut on a lathe to remove the high points. Some may elect to clear coat the wheel as final process step. Others just leave the aluminum bare.

Ah, cool. Yeah electrical bugs aren't fun. It's amazing how a near-microscopic fracture in soldering can cause electrical failures. I've reflowed a few circuit boards because of that in old 80's and 90's amps and such, it's annoying.

Replaced the original rubber on my spare tire. I no longer live in fear of blowing out my spare should I need to use it. Bonus: I took it to Les Schwab to have them mount it on the rim, they did so for free including a new valve! Other local places were asking $15-20.

Picked up the Kumho from Tire Rack recommended on the spare tire thread (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?5130-Spare-Tire&p=73373&viewfull=1#post73373), I had to wait 2 months for them to get it back in stock. If you want new rubber, order now to avoid a long wait later. It cost me $60 including shipping.

I put some air in the tires hoping that they won't get flat spots.

Turned the distributor back around and cranked. No joy. Planning to remove the stud so I can have more room for adjustment. Once I get the engine running, I can get the timing light and straighten things out the right way. Gotta have a replacement stud, though, just in case...

(Unrelated note: 1981 DeLorean maintenance is sometimes easier than 2006 Chrysler maintenance!)

I thought I'd get started on my headlight switch replacement with the little bit of daylight I had left. I dismantled the center console and pulled off all the knobs. I fought with the AC one for a good 10 minutes until I put a screwdriver behind it and gently pried it off. Then I pulled out my headlight switch and dismantled it expecting to see it melted. It's not melted. It's in perfect condition. That's when my brain said "uh oh..." My fuse block is toast. I found two melted fuses and the PO's replacement box for fuse 7 was disintegrated too.

So...anyone want to buy on original headlight switch that hasn't melted yet? ;)

lowering springs
new boots (UCA, LCA, tie rod)
S/S braided flex hoses
re-plated and rebuilt calipers with S/S pistons
new paint on all black parts
cleaned, painted, and re-oiled the steering rack
cleaned and touched up the frame

I actually like them a lot. But the one I always liked the most, the 944, I haven't seen in years. I guess they stopped making them (or did they)? I just don't see them at all, and I haven't researched it. The others are nice enough...I just really liked the 944.

I was driving on base( 32nd street naval base, SD) when suddenly i heard a loud snap then i couldn't accelerate at all. Pulled over, turned out the cable connecting to the pedal snapped. So i got out and pusher her to a parking spot. Ordered a new inner cable from dmc LA and installed it problem free, back on the road!

It only took me about 20 hours total with an extra helper to finish. lol!

I took off my rear calipers today and broke them down for rebuilding. Of course, 2 of the 4 pistons were stuck, one on each caliper. I soaked the brake fluid cavity with WD-40 for an hour. No go with 120psi air. Then I compressed the pistons back, cleaned out and sprayed the area between the piston and the caliper again. Success!

The pistons are toast though.

Took advantage of the unusually warm weather today (54F at noon) to finish removing my leaky radiator for replacement. Also cleaned up my horn wiring while I was in the neighborhood. Now it's 30F and falling with 30+ MPH wind.

Met up with our local chapter of PNDC (Dave and Dan) at my friends shop on Saturday, who provided hot coffee, a lift, all the tools you can think of and a hydraulic press.

First we got Dan's DeLorean on the lift and started to work on his break system. His break fluid looked like brown goo. Dave took the master cylinder off and noticed that it was the original one from installation in 81 and that it was leaky. He could not find the spare one he had last year and we sourced a cross referenced one from LORDCO during the day.

Dan and I completed an oil and oil filter change at his car while waiting for Dave to return to the shop.

We then rolled his car out of the shop and my DeLorean into it to replace the rear wheel bearings. We managed to get the passenger side done before the Dan's new master cylinder arrived. It took longer than expected but it was also the first time we did it. The wheel bearing that was in there was toast and I had a way smoother ride home later that day.

We put priority to installing the new master cylinder in Dan's car. He would have otherwise been stuck there. Pulled my DeLorean out of the garage and his back in to finish the MC installation and break flush. Some nasty gooey stuff came out of the front bleeding nipples (hence a ton of nipple jokes were cracked).

We also noticed during bleeding my rear passenger side caliper after installing the wheel bearing that my break fluid should get flushed as well and that my master cylinder was also the original one. We will therefore get a new one as well soon. Breaks are a bit spongy but the car stops. Will also order 4 caliper rebuild kits. It is time. New project on the horizon.

It still has been a lot of fun and work and this was the official first TechSession for us on the 3rd day of 2015. Awesome start into the New Year! :rock_on:

That appears to be the case. It's a reman unit from "that guy in Texas" that has never been quite right since the day it was installed. It had been seeping for a while and this appears to have just been the last gasp for it. I won't know 100% if it was the shaft seal or the pump back until I remove it for triage. But, if I'm removing it, I am certainly not going to keep trusting it.

id get the inner door clips. I had my work done at dmc la, i am VERY happy with all of it. If you replace the door seals id get the clips. DOnt skip out dont want any leaks, esp if you are in alaska. Replaced the battery in the car a few days ago while visiting family. It ate another Yellow top. I think the battery may have been damaged when they tried to jump the car and zapped the old GTI behind it. The GTI then didn't run for months and my car was stranded. If not damaged, then sitting for that period with no charge got it. Popped a new Type 78 in and fired right up. I just got a basic walmart battery tho as the car may be in storage another year or two and only get driven occasionally. Once I finish officer training, I'm gonna be stationed in Thule, Greenland for a year.

Usually easy to find. If the master is failing, the fluid runs behind the carpet under your feet. If it's the slave, it will be dripping off the frame just forward of the engine and the epoxy will be peeling off. Also check the rubber hose that goes from the reservoir to the clutch master.

Thanks Dave. Funny thing is, I don't see any fluid dripping under the car, and the slave appeared to be dry, best I could see and feel it considering its location. And the area around the master was dry as a bone, no visible fluid. No visible reservoir fluid loss either.

I confess though, I did not check the carpet area under foot. I'll do that later today (it's pitch dark now as I write this).

Well, yesterday...

Actually checked everything out and started it for the first time in several months! Today I should be taking it out for a spin to get groceries since my compressor will be charged all the way and I will be able to get the tires reinflated the rest of the way.

Decided to do some interior projects after checking my "faded" break light. It looked yellow when John from DMC NW drove it into the shop. I noticed that I accidentally installed a yellow LED in the break socket (D-oh!) (in one of the two of the driver's side ones). That was also my initial thought when seeing it, because I have seen faded indicator lenses but never break ones, but now I confirmed it.

I then got inside, removed the center console, installed the radio knob spacers I had flying around, and the new radio faceplate.

I then bent the bracket holding the back of the shifter plate to educe the physical stress on the bolts holding the softer plate on the front in the holes on the side of the center console. In the end I bent the front of the shifter plate down a bit to relief the AC panel from being pushed out.

I installed the GoWesty cigarette lighter. Very nice fit. I do not really care that there is a cigarette symbol on the knob now, but I might take care of this in the future.

I then finally installed Rob's DeClock. How awesome it was packed. Like an apple product. Very shiny!

Had an issue whereby I lost select function on the encoder but determined that the bottom of the encoder circuit touched the bracket that needed to stay in place for the automatic shifter to redirect the plastic sheet in the shift way. But a double application of electric tape to the bottom of the circuit took care of this.

I am proud of the new look and that my AC panel can now be held in place by the flimsy screw and I do not have to worry about my AC knobs falling out during a ride.

I then took the blower motor out because it started to make noise. No contaminants in the area or fan. I cleaned it and turned it on in my hand. It heavily wobbles. Looks like a blower motor bearing is gone. Not sure how I will address this now because it looks as if the blower motor is a complete unit with the bracket. But I read in a thread that somebody put a new motor into the bracket. I will have to dig for it.

Drove to the local bicycle shop and bought a $4.30 brake cable to replace the hood release cable I broke several weeks ago. Very easy fix.

Been working on the car just about every night this week. Pulled the accumulator off, the fuel filter off, all of the fuel lines, fuel distributor, injectors and such earlier in the week. Tonight.. I traveled for the first time to the "Valley of Death". That part the previous owner told me about "garage kept for 15 years"...… bull. I vacuumed enough leaves, dirt, and crud out of the valley I could have made my own tree. I tagged and bagged every individual part, piece and bolt as I took them off the car. I also tagged and labeled every wire connection and vacuum hose that stayed in the car.

Didn't break any bolts, as I had pretty much soaked everything in PB blaster and WD40 rust penetrate. Most of my bolts were rusty on the heads, but the shafts looked fine. Most of the hose clamps are rusted, but I've got a complete hose kit from DMCH sitting in the corner of the garage. I'm trying to determine what all I should replace while I've got everything torn down. The car hasn't run in 20 years, so I have no idea on the condition of things like the warm up regulator, cold start valve, frequency valve, water pump, etc. Most of them are either rusted, dirty, or full of 20 year old gas. The car is inside my garage out of the elements, so it can stay apart for awhile while I find out what parts I need to get. My goal is to have it up and running by the end of the summer. I do have the exposed holes to the cylinders stuffed and covered, but I did notice when I pulled the intake manifold that those holes are extremely dirty. Not sure about the best way to go about cleaning that.

Cleared out the rats nest of remaining under-dash wiring from the alarm that came with the car when I bought it 9 years ago.

All did not go smoothly: I wasn't able to correlate much of the wiring to the schematics and in spite checking for voltage and ground in order to make sure I didn't cut anything important I was pretty confident nothing would be affacted so then I started it to make sure.... and..... crickets... no cranking! Just the hum of the fuel pump. OK, now I had to back track what wires I had cut - including fishing them back out of the trash - laid them out on the floor and eventually concluded what two wires needed to be re-soldered and - voila - everything was back to normal.

Put the rear suspension back on the car for a last minute job request. Took about 6 hours to get everything back on (trailing arms upwards), and bleed the brake calipers and such. You probably should chase the treads on any of the welded nuts on the frame. I had to do that to my shifter plate mounting nuts because they were so tight. I think the frame epoxy got into the treads. You want it clean to get a good ground.

I purchased the rears in a 235/60/R15 here locally, and the fronts, 195/60/R14's I was able to purchase off of Josh "fluxin" out of Canada. He was able to find a tire dealer near him with a small stock of NOS. I'm very happy with the look. Though I think I may now get a set of lowering springs to give me the stance I've always dreamed of.

I know the question was directed at Mike, but I spoke with him this morning and can chime in on a few things. He is using Mitsubishi Eclipse vents like I did. For these you will need 2.5" flexible air ducting as well as a Y adapter if you want two vents on the passenger knee pad.

I removed the lever for the actuator that opens the center vents (accessible if you remove the glovebox.). I then used aluminum foil tape over the vent openings behind the console just to prevent any air leakage there.

As i mentioned, the vents that I am using are out of an early 2000's Mitsubishi Eclipse (tons of them on eBay at the time of this writing) - kinda ironic to me, as a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse was the first car that I ever bought new off of a dealership lot. I actually got a set of 4, that have 2 different setups (2 of each type):

The vent on the left, will be used on either side of the steering column. these take a 2.5 inch hole and will be fixed (non-rotateable), but you can open and close the vent itself. There is just barely enough room in the knee pads on this side of the car to install the vents.

The vents on the right in the pictures have an outer frame that will require between a 2 3/4 and 3 inch hole to be drilled, but will allow the vents to rotate as well as open and close. I will do two of these on the passenger side of the car. Placement is pretty well dictated by the glove box. I am going to have to figure out the changing from 2.5 inch hose to 2.75 inch vent housing. (I think I have a solution, but will have to see if it actually works once I get parts in the mail).

I just got 1 of the above Y adapters. I plan on using this on the passenger side. the Y will go on the existing hose mounting point and I will use a short section of hose to go to the left vent. The existing hose will to towards the door and will go to the right-most vent. This should be pretty easy to accomplish with minimum modification.

The Drivers side will be more interesting. I am going to leave the tubing in place that goes above the steering column. the short hose that goes to the door will be redirected to the left most vent. the tricky part is that there is no good place to install a y adapter on this side of the car. I plan on drilling a 2.5 inch hole directly in to the existing ducting. . . .somewhere around here:

I like Patrick's idea of disabling the moving mechanism (I was afraid that messing with this would screw up the air going to the new vents as well). I will probably use my dremel to cut down the plastic parts of the center vent and then sealing the ports up to ensure that there is minimal air leakage. I will take pics as I work through all of this, and can make a how-to posting when I am all complete....

For this part, I reused one of the original duct hoses that isn't as flexible as the new plastic ones. I drilled the 2.5" hole where Michael has described, then cut the end of the hose into shape so that it "snags" some of the air and forces it down, while allowing some air to pass it as well to get to the far side vent.

Not the best photo, but here you can see what I did in terms of drilling the hole and inserting the hose from there to the kneepad. It works very well in terms of airflow.

I'm currently removing parts on the rear of the car to have them re-plated. After doing reading on this forum, today I tackled the crankshaft pulley removal. After spraying WD-40 on the nut for each of the last 3 days, I followed the instructions that I read, and after 2 attempts with an impact wrench, I am happy to say that the nut loosened. So I cleaned the pulley as prep. I suspect that there may have been an oil leak at that seal, so I'll replace that as well.

Question: If I wanted to remove most of the timing cover bolts to have them plated as well, do I have to drain the engine oil? Where is the level of the oil relative to the bottom of the cover?

LOL. Actually, there was a fair amount of surface rust in the grooves, polished by the movement of the belts. But what you see in the pic cleaned up nicely with wet sanding (paint thinner with 320 then 400 ). That took it down to the clear zinc under the yellow chromate. Good enough for plating I think.

Can you post a photo of the part number info on your A/C belt? Something doesn't look quite right to me with how the belt is sitting in the pulley groove.

Using Martin G's handy video, I determined that my distributor was 180° off. Having lined the timing up, I started putting things back together, and snapped a spark plug and a connector for the kickdown switch. Every time I get closer to fixing something, something else completely idiotic happens which stops me in my tracks. I am convinced that my car hates me, and I am beginning to hate it back.

As i mentioned, the vents that I am using are out of an early 2000's Mitsubishi Eclipse (tons of them on eBay at the time of this writing) - kinda ironic to me, as a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse was the first car that I ever bought new off of a dealership lot. I actually got a set of 4, that have 2 different setups (2 of each type):

The vent on the left, will be used on either side of the steering column. these take a 2.5 inch hole and will be fixed (non-rotateable), but you can open and close the vent itself. There is just barely enough room in the knee pads on this side of the car to install the vents.

The vents on the right in the pictures have an outer frame that will require between a 2 3/4 and 3 inch hole to be drilled, but will allow the vents to rotate as well as open and close. I will do two of these on the passenger side of the car. Placement is pretty well dictated by the glove box. I am going to have to figure out the changing from 2.5 inch hose to 2.75 inch vent housing. (I think I have a solution, but will have to see if it actually works once I get parts in the mail).

I just got 1 of the above Y adapters. I plan on using this on the passenger side. the Y will go on the existing hose mounting point and I will use a short section of hose to go to the left vent. The existing hose will to towards the door and will go to the right-most vent. This should be pretty easy to accomplish with minimum modification.

The Drivers side will be more interesting. I am going to leave the tubing in place that goes above the steering column. the short hose that goes to the door will be redirected to the left most vent. the tricky part is that there is no good place to install a y adapter on this side of the car. I plan on drilling a 2.5 inch hole directly in to the existing ducting. . . .somewhere around here:

and then either epoxy in a small bit of plastic tube that I can attach the hoses to, or just a hole that the tube can go in to. I was hoping to drill straight in, but will probably have to do that on the bottom, and hopefully at a bit of an angle to keep from having the AC hose go down towards the pedals before looping back up to the vent.

I have looked at the center vents, but have not done anything with them yet. I want to get my new radio in and see what the fit looks like. I like Patrick's idea of disabling the moving mechanism (I was afraid that messing with this would screw up the air going to the new vents as well). I will probably use my dremel to cut down the plastic parts of the center vent and then sealing the ports up to ensure that there is minimal air leakage. I will take pics as I work through all of this, and can make a how-to posting when I am all complete....

While I was stopped for a red light and waiting for the light to turn green, this old lady in a huge cady coming in real fast behind me and not slowing down. I am thinking... OMG OMG please stop, please stop.... and crash. Luckily, car in front was a Smart car and I had a lot of distance in between. I banged my head and got a nasty bump. And some back pain. Other than that nothing is broken or cut. Unfortunately, my Lotus wasn't too lucky.

Crazy thing was, I felt sorry and worried for that old lady. She looked like 85 or older. But she started to blame me for not getting out of her way and claiming that I cut her off. My car wasn't even moving. Gee wiz... Fortunately, traffic camera caught the entire incident and confirmed my story. I believe her care giver lady was following her in a separate car because the care giver lady was worried about that old lady getting into an accident. That didn't help in this case.

Now I am down two cars ugggg....

Over the weekend, I had a garage sale to liquidate all my Lotus parts and tools. Vulchers, no I mean, other Lotus owners, cleared my garage out. I felt really sad to let those things go but didn't want anything that would remind me of my old car.:drunk:

A while back my A/C fan quit working (A/C doesn’t work either, but that’s another story). Today I got around to looking into it. Checked fuses first, none bad, but while I was in the fuse box, I cleaned all the contacts.

Then I was about to go inside to log into DMCTalk to get help as to what else might be wrong with the blower motor if it wasn’t a fuse issue. Then at the last minute, I decide to check for anything amiss under the dash. Sure enough, somehow the power wire to the fan blower motor had come off. Plugged it back in, and now the fan works again.

So instead of coming on Talk and starting a new thread to ask for help about a bad A/C fan motor, I’m coming on Talk to post on “What have you done …..” that I solved my fan problem.

Usually easy to find. If the master is failing, the fluid runs behind the carpet under your feet. If it's the slave, it will be dripping off the frame just forward of the engine and the epoxy will be peeling off. Also check the rubber hose that goes from the reservoir to the clutch master.


Thanks Dave. Funny thing is, I don't see any fluid dripping under the car, and the slave appeared to be dry, best I could see and feel it considering its location. And the area around the master was dry as a bone, no visible fluid. No visible reservoir fluid loss either.

I confess though, I did not check the carpet area under foot. I'll do that later today (it's pitch dark now as I write this).

I know it's been a while, as since I bled the clutch again, there wasn't much pressure on me to do anything about having had to bleed the clutch twice now in six months. But today I got in to inspect the master cylinder again.

Just as I said before, no fluid present on or around the MC, but per Dave's suggestion, I also looked in the driver's foot well area. Again, no actual fluid present, but I did see unexplained stains on the carpet under the gas pedal. At first I thought it was just dirt from my shoes. Strange I thought, because the MC should be under the clutch pedal, not the gas pedal, right? But it is actually right behind the gas pedal, so the stained carpet must be dried clutch fluid.

Anyway, now I know for sure I'll be replacing the MC soon. For the moment though, the foot well is dry, and I still have ok clutch after the second bleeding.

Replaced the last wheel bearing on the car (drivers side rear). Car drives nicely.

Brakes suck and I will have to work with Dave (sdg3205) on it soon. Car did slide on wet road on the way back.

Scratched my precious new DeClock lens. Buffed the scratch out a bit and then broke of the little stud holding one side of the clock to the shifter plate. :swear1:
Krazy glue did nothing. We did not have JB Weld available. Luckily Dave has another shifter plate that I can probably use. Have to get it from him soon.

Wired up the Wigs-A-Loft remote trunk release to find out that my hood is not properly aligned and it is unable to release the hood with the remote trunk release. I noticed several times that my fellow DeLorean friends could simply let the hood drop and it woudl lock. I have to puch it down. The hood latch, holding the hood in the locking mechanism, is scratched away in one location about half. I guess that this should not be the case. I probably need a new hood latch. I will use the old opening method for now.

Also hooked up Bitsyncmaster's LED dimmer module for the courtesy lights. Works like a charm. Getting to the wires in my harness was a pain, but it works great once installed.

I definately want to do this mod, but am nervous about getting the holes slightly off of where they need to be and ruining the knee pads....

mine is slightly different. I have 2 fixed vents on the drivers side that take a 2.5" hole. The 2 vents that I have for the passenger side are in a housing that will rotate, and will require a 3" hole. . . .I have not drilled those holes yet, but for the drivers side I did the same process that Patrick mentioned, going from the back to drill out plastic, then cutting slots from the front.

I am going to get my radio work done first, then focus on the AC. More to come.

I did develope with SPAX the option to lower slightly on the rear using the damper but kept my old car at stock height. I probably will do the rear's next year. I dont wish to lower the car to much just to lower the front down to make the driving position better. Plus we have to many speed humps in the UK to make lowering a car an option!

Though I have a feeling I have seen a picture, may have been on hear of a large clamp type of compressor that seemed a much better idea.

Nope, it did not come with the radio, I got the "Flush Mounting Camera-by-Accele (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ESYFF8Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)". The included cables are long enough to go from the license plate area all the way to the head unit, with a bit left over.

There are two loops of wires that you can cut to add backup lines, reverse the picture, or flip it upside down. I need to figure out the proper thing to add the lines without flipping or rotating the camera.

I took the D out for a drive today. On the way back home while shifting into 3rd gear, I noticed the rpm's didn't drop. About 2,000+? (I was paying attention to traffic not exact tach readings).
Goosed the throttle and it would go up higher but not lower so, not a stuck throttle. Looking at the gauges I noticed that the Volt meter was also spiking above normal.?
I headed for a side street so I could park and check things out and got stuck in school bus traffic. :angry0: While waiting in the jam, (With rpm's still high), I saw my temp gauge was creeping up above normal.
Just as traffic started to move I shut the car off and re-started it. Throttle/volt meter went back to normal and after driving a block the temp gauge was down to normal.
Because of the weather we'll have here for the next few days, I covered the car and will deal/check things out this weekend. Bulkhead connectors are my first suspect.

Just a typical DeLorean day... :paranoid:

Hi George,

I had this after they rebuilt my initial alternator. It had a defective voltage regulator, shooting up to 17-18V when the car got at temperature. This can totally screw up your electronics (Quote from Toby Peterson from DMC NW, who had a customer with that). Not sure if this will also impact your RPM gauge, but worth monitoring.

Ordered MOST of the parts needed for new exhaust. Resonators, straight & bent pipes, & mufflers are all still on hold until I get the rest in place and can make precise measurements. All told, should cost about $600 and will be stainless steel except for exhaust manifolds (stock).

Out of curiosity, looked over the math of selling my car. Holy crap is the exchange rate right now ever bad!

A Canadian buying, say, $1,000 USD worth of DMC parts in time for Spring, if you don't even count yet the regular taxes or shipping costs, is looking at about $1,280 CAD from JUST the exchange rate.

Same goes for going on vacation to the US with Canadian dollars in your pocket. Buying $100 of US cash costs $128 Canadian right now.

However, if a Canadian might want to sell their car though to a buyer in the US with those US dollars, now that $20k USD car price gets the seller $25,600 of the Canadian dollars he's spending at home anyway. And a $30k USD car sold by a Canadian equals $38,400 CAD. Not very nice for a Canadian right now wanting to buy a US based car, but boy is that math ever good if a Canadian wants to sell to the US. And the guy in the US is still paying what he intended to in the first place because it's still the same dollars to him when he spends it.

Yea, there are higher costs for customs and duty or taxes or extra shipping costs potentially, but that's quite a bit of extra fat in the budget to meet somewhere in the middle where both sides are happy with what they got.

All of the electrical stuff that I ordered online finally arrived today. I was all ready to replace the battery clamps on my daily driver ... but I couldn't find my cable cutters! :angry:

Well, I didn't have the right size of heat-shrink, anyway, so I went to Home Depot and bought cable cutters & big heat-shrink. I also bought a calliper - the old fashioned kind that doesn't need batteries - because I am tired of looking at stuff like hoses and fasteners and trying to guess how big they are. I also bought a 1/4"-drive 9mm socket, since mine went AWOL.

I cooked an early supper (Ally wasn't feeling well) and went outside to the garage to put the new tools in their places. It was a freakishly gorgeous day today. I couldn't resist the call of the DeLorean. So I sent Ally a text message to let her know that I was going to work on the car while she got some rest.

And so I went to work on removing the headers. What a nightmare. I cut the tops of both hands and ripped calluses on both thumbs and most of my fingers. On cylinder 5, I could barely get a small flat wrench in between the pipe and the stud. The only 11mm flat wrench I have is an el-cheapo Harbor Freight combo wrench that came as part of the SpecialTAuto DeLorean Emergency Roadside Kit Or Whatever It's Called, and it certainly wasn't meant to take the kind of abuse I put it through. The fit is sloppy on the open end, but the other end is a 12-point so the open end was my only option. A few times I felt the wrench start to bend and thought "Oh boy, it's time to snap another Pittsburgh wrench." But each time, CLICK -- the nut came loose! Well, actually, in two cases, the stud came loose. Nonetheless, I managed to remove the driver-side header. After loosening the nuts and/or studs by ever-so-tiny increments, they all came off/out without incident. I un-fastened the clamp that holds the Otter Switch pipe to the frame and pushed it out of the way so that I could slide the header up and over the oil dipstick tube. I just cut the oxygen sensor's wire; that thing hasn't been used since 2008, anyway.

A good close-up look at the headers shows that it wasn't just the parts closest to the road that were rusting. They're rusting up top by the flanges, too. Makes me feel better about making my new exhaust from stainless steel (except for the stock manifolds, which will be re-used).

I had to put the car up on jack-stands in order to get to the studs by cylinder 4, which was the last one I did. I had a look at the passenger side header and decided against removing it tonight. In order to remove the header, I have to remove the alternator and the oil filter. Removing the alternator is easy, but I didn't feel like draining the oil tonight. It was already after 9pm by this time.

With that header out of the way I can see for miles compared to what I could see before. I can look at the engine mount, and see that the reason the left side of my engine is black and oily is because I have a torn CV boot. When the car was parked, the tear was facing the rear, so I couldn't see it. But now I can. Nice. :)

I think I may also need to remove the oil pressure sending unit to get a wrench on the header studs by cylinder 3. Maybe not. Nonetheless, I disconnected every wire I could reach and shoved it aside. The wires by the alternator are all so stiff, though, that they just kind of hang in the air, keeping their shape no matter what I do with them.

Now I have to figure out what to do about those two studs that came out. I have no doubt that I will end up removing some studs on the passenger side, too, when I get around to it. My local Ace Hardware sells metric studs, so I will just go there and buy however many of those I need, plus 12 stainless flange nuts to put the stock manifolds back on. (Headers were put on with nuts & washers.)

All in all, I'm thrilled that it went so well. And I wasn't even planning on working on the DeLorean today. :)

Hi Farrar,
Those look a little sketchy as to the installed lenght and no we don't use them. As I've already posted I've had hardened stainless studs custom made for this appliction and you won't find them anywhere else unless DPI orders more from us. I've done a lot of exhaust system work over the years and have three kits available.

One is for the cost or "must be stock" conscious and the other two are for those who don't want to do this job again for an extended period of time compared to the stock offerings. We only use the improved kits in the shop.

I need to get so many of our new parts on our website when time permits so for now if you need things like this it is neccessary to pick up the phone and call us at (800)350-7429. Sorry for any inconvienance this may represent but were SLOWLY working to add to our new website.

Very Nice! What are you going to do about the rubber seal that insulates the filler neck from the body? I havent been able to find a replacement via DMCH.
