Took her for a 200km spirited drive with the Lotus Club yesterday. Tested out the new Eibachs and Spax shocks, Handled very well, better than expected. Only hiccup was the Auto box seemed like she was slipping when shifting down unless you gave it a real hard boot. Checked when I got home that the Auto fluid was very low. Put in roughly 200ml and she shifts really nicely again. :)

Found a torn O-ring under the intake manifold and figured a vacuum leak there was the cause of a terrible, stumbling, missing idle that I've had for months. Replaced all six O-rings and buttoned everything back up tight as can be. Started engine and got a terrible, stumbling, missing idle, only now the engine wants to die under 900 RPM. Got a million mosquito bites, sweat all over my glasses, water all over my feet, and a headache. Said "Fuck this car" and walked away.

I installed Ed Uding's lower control arm braces (outriggers). The install when fairly smoothly. I was able to hammer the new bolts in while pushing the old ones out. No disassembly required. I did run into a slight hitch on the drivers side. The bolt that attaches the control arm to the frame was in the wrong way. I could punch the new bolt in the limited space. So I had to cut the head off the old bolt so I could punch in the new bolt. That was kind of a pain, but other than that, fairly smooth.

Chris, the bolts should go in from the rear-side of the car, so the nuts are closest to the radiator... at least that what Ed told me. I don't think it really matters, but it sure helps installation!

It would have been much harder to install the bolts so that the nuts were facing the radiator. Like you said, I don't think it really matters.

How do you mean, harder? What I did (the first time i put them on) was use one of the new bolts to drive the old one out, and then installed the other new bolt to drive the temporary bolt out. A fellow owner told me to do it like that and it works like a charm.

Got my lighter LEDs wired. It looks perfect looking straight down on the lighter but looking at the side it's to bright and I see each LED. I'm going to try painting the metal part of the lighter flat black and see it that helps. I think the LEDs are reflecting off the metal.

By the way, that hot glue is not to bad to remove. You heat it up with a soldering iron and then pick it away. It also bonds very good when it's cold.

2 Things
1. You really need to bring your car to DCS 2012. I want to see everything you have done to it.
2. You need to teach a seminar on LED'ing your D, and you can use my D for the demonstration

If you don't

Reconnected the wiring to the door light plungers only to realize my doors still don't close well enough to shut the lights off with the doors "closed". Thinking I need something extra in there to fill the gap to get them to shut off. Also realized the door buzzer doesn't shut up even after pushing in the plunger. Might be shot but didn't realize it cause once upon a time my wiper delay board wasn't plugged in. Maybe that was why!! Haha

There are a couple of different solutions to this problem. Some folks put vacuum caps on the switch plungers. A previous owner of mine glued a small square of plastic to the door, about 1/4" thick, to where the plungers contact. Either method seems effective.

I drove my DeLorean to a video shoot tonight. Along the way, I noticed my dome light blinking erratically. I removed it to find that it had broken: one of the legs of the clear plastic part had broken, making ground contact intermittent. The "door ajar" light was on and so the courtesy lights wouldn't shut off; I pulled the fuse so that I could see out my rear-view mirror. (Drawback of my parcel shelf light mod: no off-switch. I may have to implement such a feature in the future, probably using one of two extra rocker switches I bought from DMCH a while back.)

Before I went to the video shoot, though, I had to put gas in the tank. Public Service Announcement: NEVER fill up your tank across the street from a bar with outdoor tables. The instant I opened my door, I heard:

"Heeeeeey! Marty McFlyyyyyyy! Are you goin' back to the future?"
*wolf whistle*
"Woooooooo!"
"Hey, when you get back to 1955, tell my mom and dad I love 'em!"
...and so on.

I offered no reaction, but I was thinking "Holy shit, it's the Redneck Comedy Tour." And they didn't quit. My gauge had read empty, but after putting nine gallons in I had had enough, so I split.

The engine misses like crazy but does not die, and all of my other modifications seem to be doing well. I parked the car at home with the feeling that I had accomplished something today. Along the way I got to impersonate Ozzy Osborne, so that was fun.

I was wondering why Coolio never called me.

This was a different video shoot -- mine was for a rock band made up of evil/mad scientists: one member of the band thwarts the development of heavy metal by going back in time and giving Ozzy Osbourne a flugelhorn in 1966... unfortunately, this leads to the development of ska music as the dominant form of popular entertainment, so he tries to correct this by going further back in time, where he gives Little Richard a trombone... and hilarity ensues.

Yup. They even have a (VERY) rough cut of the first part of the video up. The most impressive thing to me is that they had me park the car in front of a giant blue tarp, and simply used that video plus a picture from Google Maps to put the car into Birmingham, UK, 1966! The band sure is going to a lot of effort for a single show... but as a lark, it's pretty funny.

I put in my K&N filter and cold air intake hose and took her for a spin, results as follows:

The car has a lot more horsepower
The graining on the stainless is now perfect
The glass is clearer
I have 15% more tread on my tires now
my horns are louder...

OK, maybe not. It might have a little more power lower in the rpm range - hard to say. It does idle a bit smoother (I have DMCCA cams so it was a bit lopey before, it is smoother now). Certainly no ill effects - I'm happy. BTW - the "old filter" was DMCH NOS and about 2 months old.

Waiting now for my Stage 1 Exhaust... I kind of expect it all to spell mother at that point.

Not sure what to call it then BTW - it will have taller cams, cold air intake and K&N filter, fresh coil and O2, and stage 1 exhaust. No port and polish however. I know I won't be getting a Stage II tag in the mail for my trouble - but it's closer to that than anything else at that point. I was thinking "Level 2" or "Mark 2" or even "Gen-2" (GEN II is taken, as some of you will recall) - but in memory of Wernher von Braun I'm leaning toward calling it a V-2 Engine...

Yesterday I washed it and passed by a friends house. His neighbors came out to see the car and I showed them and their son around it. The dad was pretty interested in it, asked if some had GM engines (he knew he didn't know, so it wasn't like he was telling me that).

This morning I was driving it to work and the alternator/water pump belt broke. Again. That's the third one in <1,000 miles. Clearly something is tweaked, even though it looks good to the naked eye. I'm moving to CA in 2 weeks, shipping the D, so I'm going to call DMC Garden Grove and see about having it sent there and having some other work done on it at the same time.

(To add insult to injury, I got a ride home to borrow a friends trailer to bring the Delorean home on. It broke the wood on the trailer, and then when I got home my truck sprung a leak on the power steering line and was pouring everywhere.)

Got finished early, wife is out of town for a show, beautiful day so I took 5609 out for a drive this afternoon. I thought I would go and find a road I had never been on before, and I did, and promptly got lost. I lost my signal to my phone almost immediately. That country road I got on had no other roads to turn on, just one curve after another which would have been fine but I was heading west with no way to navigate back in the other direction. I passed absolutely nothing but homes, no sign of a gas station, or anything at all really. Now this is really what I wanted, to get lost and find my way back, but this road just went on and on....and on. I acutally did find one road, but 5 or 6 miles into the new direction it turned to gravel, so I tucked tail and went back. At the 1/4 tank mark I got a signal again and realized I was about to intersect with Rogersville, so I kept going to the 11W highway intersection, almost 50 miles away from home. I put some gas in the tank, passed a take out sushi resturant on the way home so I here am safe and sound getting ready to shower and eat dinner.

All I was thinking about for most of the trip was if I break down, I have no idea where I am, and I have had no phone signal for over 15 miles.

I have lived in east Tennessee for most of my life, and still it was so easy to get lost.

This is so funny. That's almost exactly what I did yesterday too. I just took off down a road I had never driven before. Ended up going way through the back country, caught in a quick rainstorm and on a long straight road with no real turnaround possible due to deep ditches on either side. Eventually connected to a cross street and I recognized it, wound my way back on some more interesting (but previously-explored) roads. Didn't get sushi though, so your story totally wins. :)

Used Leatherique crack filler to do a temporary binnacle repair and re-sprayed it grey with the SEM dye. Looks 80% better than as before - brown, spotted with multiple deep cracks. Actually, looks pretty great. You'd have to be looking for the fix now. Before you could see how bad it was through the windshield.

Cleaned stainless under rear side markers, installed rear side lamps, reattached side markers with new PJ Grady black screws, tidied up installation of SS engine cover panels, applied about six more coats of paint to mini-louvers, installed engine cover hooks, stays, stops, and associated hardware, painted the (estimated) ten thousandth bolt-nut-washer combo, installed same (fuel regulator bracket, engine cover hinges, louver hook on lower engine cover).

Discovered that if I hadn't been spending so much time painting and finishing bolts and what have you, the car would likely be finished by now.

Realized that the massive collection of bolts, nuts, screws, washers, brackets, gizmos, doodads, and whatsits, despite being reduced by a double handful of hardware, does not appear to be any smaller. This may be attributable to the large number of new parts added to the car, but I suspect they are breeding.

Tonight I install the mini-louvers (at last) and will attempt to install one of the quarter panels completely (I have a box of stainless sheet metal screws and another of speed nuts just waiting to be used up). And if I have time, build a new DLM per Dave M.'s design. Oh, and install the front side marker screws / polish the stainless under same.

Got the new Air box and fuel pump kit yesterday, minus parts on backorder.
Air box was in pretty bad shape when I bought the car, and there was fuel stored in it(no telling how long it has been there, the seller was apparently none to honest)
Installed it and gave her a shot. The pressure from the fuel pump popped half he hoses off of the accumulator(Replaced days earlier). Not funny at the time. Got those guys back on there and the pressure pops the whole fuel pump boot off the gas tank. With gas spraying everywhere, I managed to get everything put back.
All the salty mechanics out there are surely shaking their heads in disgust, but I'm learning fast.
It still doesn't start, just cranks and cranks, occasionally if left alone for a while it will pretend to start and then quit.
I think its a cold start issue and I'm going to begin trouble shooting on that side of the house.
So today I think I'll try the ol' wire switcheroo to see if the Thermotime Switch (TTS) is the issue and hopefully get her runnin'.

Tried to figure out why my interior lights stay on even with both doors closed... Checked door switches with a voltmeter - they're good. Disconnected switches - lights stayed on. Placed jumpers in place of switches - lights stayed on. Went to pull fuse from fuse box to simply eliminate battery drain problem, felt the fuse box to be quite warm to the touch. Removed fuse. Suspect bad ground. Will probably re-wire interior circuit to include more courtesy lights and leave door lights alone once this problem is solved.

Replacement ash tray

New parking brake switch (but still need to go into binnacle and replace bulb)

Finally back from two months in the shop. Had... Big breath... the stage 1 finished, the relay upgrade kit installed, the hose upgrade kit installed, the fuel system kit upgrade installed, the break system rotors and pads upgrade installed, the eibock and spax shocks installed, the ignition and wires upgrade kit installed, all new injectors and seals done too, steam cleaned the engine, all new fluids, and filters, and battery, and smoged. I got over my fears and started working on a car I've owned for six years. I took the manifold off and was greeted by the valley of death. Words do not describe the terror, the stench, the sheer amount of crud that laid there.

I now begin cleaning, endlessly cleaning. Talk about biting off more than you can chew...I'm already choking heh...

I picked up a Uhaul tow dolly and loaded my Delorean for a trip to DMCF in Bonita Springs tomorrow, a 150 mile trip.

Some tips from just going around the block:
1. Be careful the delorean is wide get it in the middle of the dolly.
2. When you turn a corner the trailer lights are close to the front fenders and could hit it.
3. You can NOT (NOT) back it up!!! Remember there are 3 vehicles and the Delorean tires are on the sitting on a pivot point. That means there are 2 pivot points, when trying to back u(p. I repeat you can NOT back up :eek5:.

I'm leaving in the morning and will let you know how it tows on the highway.

Not sure of the mileage here, but I did probably about 500 miles all told this weekend. Car ran great, and pretty comfortable - Though, fueling up on sunday afternoon, after having driven 2 hours... annoying. I was trying for a quick in and out, and when I came out with my hot dogs and coffee, the car was surrounded by spectators who wanted to chat and take pictures.

I don't mind in most instances, but at times like that, I wish the car was equiped with a cloaking device. I wanted to get in, out and get going...

I can gleefully report that, after untold years, #2613 has a functioning "cooling fan fail" light. Yes, it actually does what it is supposed to do! Each cooling fan now has its own circuit breaker and relay; if the breaker or relay fails, the "cooling fan fail" light will come on, for Fan 1, Fan 2, or (heaven forbid?) both fans. I tested this and it works like a charm. :cool1:

Started to get the car ready for bed (aka winter storage). Went for a drive to get things warmed up, then checked all the fluids. I gave her a good wash and then finally got around to trying this cleaning product another owner recommended. I dunno if the mouse crap above or the inside of my brake reservoir was more disgusting. This photo was after I cleaned out the worst of the gunk with a turkey baster and there was still a bunch of gross stuff left at the bottom. I don't know how I even still had functioning brakes. I should have flushed all the fluids when I first got the car 3 years ago. Lesson learned.

I now have fully functioning, 100% awesome heat.

This is a big deal to anyone who has taken their evaporator/heater boxes out. I knew it was going to be a big job, but not that big!

Here's how it broke down, and for the record, everyday was 10-12 hours.

Day 1 - remove entire interior (I used this as a chance to re-dye everything and fill cracks in the binnacle and dash).

Day 2 - split box, remove old Dum Dum and rotten foam, clean, apply new foam and Dum Dum, swap heater cores, put box back together

Day 3 - reinstall box and the rest of the interior. Nothing ever fits like it first did.

Day 4 - trouble shoot and bleed cooling system.

Day 5 - go for drive and enjoy gorgeous weather and new heat with windows down and heat cranked.

Perfect weather here today. Came home early from work, went for a really nice drive out to wine country, sat outside and had a glass and watched the world go by. Most of the world was stopping to gawk at the car but I just kept my distance across the street. Verified that my otterstat still works - since we put the new water pump and all the new hoses in, the car hasn't heated up enough to kick it on.

What parts were not accurate in your opinion Chad?

The company was NOT revived; they're a new entity operating under the same name.

They also don't sell 10 "new" DeLoreans a year; they've only sold 15 new-build cars. That's wrong on two counts: the cars AREN'T new, nor do they sell 10 per year.

Yes Chad, we all know that. Need we really scrutinize every piece of press? I know beer and cigarettes aren't healthy and I don't need to be reminded. Sometimes it's just nice to enjoy them without the criticism.

He was just sharing something in a local paper.

Here's a fun fact. I have a scrap book of DeLorean articles out of Canadian newspapers from my childhood and I'm sure american papers were the same. All of them were negative and focused on "crappy, gimmicky" cars and cocaine busts. I think it's a breath of fresh air these past few years reading blurbs and articles about the new DMC, electric DMC, NEW BUILD DMC's because you know what? If I have a choice between reading inaccurate information about coke busts (i.e. spending time in prison that never happened) or some fuzzy lines about where the old DMC and new DMC began or information on new DMC projects, I'll take the latter.

PS - Went for a 200 mile fall drive and it was beautiful. That's what I did today.

Thank you David, that's what I was getting at. The general public's perception of what is wrong with an article or piece of information about a DeLorean is very different than what some "afficionado's" consider wrong. Case in point my $200 Diamond Select flux capacitor. No one in the history of car shows and cruise nights has ever pointed out that it is not the right shade of gray. Was it $1,000 and an exact match to the movie? No. So is it wrong? Yes, to some, but to the majority, it doesn't matter.

Yesterday I took the D out for the first drive in a few months. Been so busy lately with my grand kids it's been sitting with no road running. It was quite cold when I started it (about 40 deg F) and it did need the CSV to start. Remember I have unplugged the CSV and my cold start relay actuates the CSV after 1 second of cranking. But after that 1 second it fired right up and ran great.

I need to find a way to stop my brake peddle from "creaking" in that cold weather. Clutch felt a little sticky at first also. Tires had flat spotted but quickly got fixed after a short drive.

My wife left for work this morning and as the garage door stopped after closing I hear a crash in the garage. I go to investigate and find a box of left over Pieces from a Composite railing kit laying on the hood. It had fallen off an 8 ft high storage shelf. They had been up there about 2 years. I guess and over time of moving things around on the shelf and Vibration from the The garage door, they shifted around unbenouced too me and decided to fall this morning. The interesting thing is that I had backed the car into the garage yesterday. The first time I'd done that all year. Otherwise it would have hit the top center of the louvre. I would have rather had that happen and get new louver that have to go through fixing the hood AGAIN. I had the whole car fixed and re-grained by Chris Nicholson a year ago.

Nice! How did it go? Was it worth all the work involved?

It went pretty well for a first drive. The idle is a bit high, and there is a little hesitation for the first 1 or 2 percent of pedal travel. But those are both tuning issues. My friend and I drove around his neighborhood several times, kept the RPMs below 3,500 or so, and went through the first three gears. Car drove very nicely at cruising speed, and had no problems with light acceleration.

Once I finish the tuning process, it will most certainly have been worth it, both functionally, as well as for the giant feeling of accomplishment I am feeling right now.

Up on the lift dremmeling and grinding rusty bits from the frame. The eye hooks in the back were the worst. I just grind the epoxy back to the point where the metal underneath is bright. A liberal application of POR-15 and then I forget about it for 6 months. Previously touched up areas still look good. I took the gas tank covering plate off and expected to find a mess. Nope. The front lip that it hangs on needed the edge ground and 1/2" forward. No real bad area. I did the entire perimeter of the plate and around each of the bolt holes. I really try to get the paint to wick into the seam where two pieces of steel are sandwiched together, like the box members just forward of the oil pan. I could be anal and top coat the patches (although POR-15 doesn't need it under there since it isn't exposed to direct sunlight) but I don't just so that I can keep track of where I've repaired and where I haven't. Looks a little patchy since the POR-15 is darker than the original, but anyone who's worried about that probably has OCD issues!

Very lucky. I have read that it's likely to shatter the rear glass and damage the T-panel if that happens, not to mention the danger to the technician! Anything that stores that much potential energy is scary. Glad you had a good experience with DMCCA! They're my closest shop as well and I will one day need to head down there.

Yesterday was a big day for me and 6720.
Picked it up from DMC CA (I had it shipped there from GA for my move). Danny said my alternator had too small a pulley, so it was spinning to fast and that's why I kept losing belts, so they changed that and adjusted the torsion bars. While they were in there, they replaced the fan fail relay (melting) and fuel accumulator hoses. Very cool to see the shop and talk to Danny.

As I was picking it up, I met another local (Local to LA, I live 3 hours north) owner, who told me about an event happening only one hour from then, so of course I went. Nine other owners were there, it was great to meet them, and we all convoyed to Lyon Estates, 1955. Lots of pictures. Kevin Pike was there too, and signed my car for me!

Then solo I drove to the tunnel Biff chased Marty through and the starting line Marty left from to return to 1985, and topped the day off with a Weird Al Concert (my fourth, and yes, it was awesome).

Between the Tunnel, driving down Hollywood Blvd, the concert parking lot and stops for gas, I had about 15 people stop and talk to me, interested in the car and take pictures. More than any other day. I didn't get home until 3am.

It ended up being a lot easier than I thought it would be.

I already had the intermidiate shaft out from taking my front end apart. Thats when I noticed the bushing was bad.

I think I may have short-cut the procedure, because I didn't bother taking the knee pads off. I just took the one screw out for the strap on the air duct and removed the duct to reach the 3 plugs for the column easier.

Took the 2 small nuts off the side brackets that are shared with the 2 larger nuts that hold the column up in place. Then I took the 2 larger nuts off that hold the cloumn up and dropped it down and turned the column 180 degrees so the bracket would clear the knee pads. It only took about 5 min. to get the column out. Very easy IMO.

As you know I have been rewiring my battery wires but tonight I unwrapped the whole engine harness to clean up the wiring. Removed the wires for the WOT, Idle micro-switch and the thermal time switch. I was in there to connect my new harness for the starter solenoid, oil pressure gauge and alternator light.

I still need to replace the long battery wire. That wire has terminals ready to fall off and a PO put a new one on the battery end that has the worst crimp I've seen.

I'm going to leave the harness unwrapped because it needs more work but I need to not do to much without testing what I've done.

Went to the shop and adjusted the drivers side torsion bar 1 spline and in the process my louvres, which were leaning up against the side of the shop, fell over into the rear quarter panel of a black Jaguar and made couple little dents and scratches. Irony at it's finest right? Having to pay for paint repair? It was one of those Ford Jaguars though, so I don't feel too bad..... This is the first and last time I pay for paint repair on a FORD!

Yes, both are modern reliable replacement components.
The Solid State RPM replay (IMHO) is the most critical, but if you don't drive for long hours and/or haven't had issues with your OEM RPM relay (yet  ), then put that on your Santa list and get the LED timer module now. ...just my $0.02.

Driving in fog this morning I noticed that my passanger head light was pointing straight, and my drivers one was cutting completely across the car crossing the passanger beam. So upon looking at the head lamps and seeing how to correct it, I noticed that the passanger side had the adjustment screw and both head lights were tied into it, the drivers side, whom ever did it, just shoved the lights in and didnt realize they need to go on the adjustment screw and pushed it into place. I wish I could meet the guy who worked on my car and punch him in the lip for being an idiot.

Last night I installed the repaired transmission mount and took the car for one last 200 mile drive. Unfortunately fixing the mount alone did not realign the crossgate. Not wanting to spend any more precious time fixing it, I drove it as-is. This means lifting up on the shifter for first and second gears, and no available reverse. I'll finish fixing that during winter. Salt is expected to fly today, so assuming it does I'm done for the season.

Started and idled the engine for several cycles of the cooling fans. Verified that my new cooling fan circuit works flawlessly. Volt gauge reads 13.5 even with stock fans.

After the engine had been running for a while, I happened to lean against the left front fender and felt heat on my leg! None of the other fenders felt that warm (in fact they were cool to the touch), so I thought it was electrical, until I opened up the trunk and felt heat on non-metallic surfaces, then opened up the access panel above the brake fluid reservoir. I didn't see any loose wires, so I suppose the heat was simply rising straight up from the radiator, with the occasional help of the cooling fans blowing the heat straight back. The initial worry when I felt that left front fender, though, was severe. I think I got a new grey hair then.

My car also now has "daytime running lights" (parking lights on when key is on) and -- finally -- functioning courtesy lights again.

Engine still misses badly, but does not stall. I can live with that for now.

When I first got my car I noticed the same heat problem. The fans would blow air out the driver’s side wheel well. It seems putting the air dam behind the fans helps stop that problem. I thought that heat was causing that brake to stick.

I became an expert on removing and reinstalling the fuel accumulator. The high pressure hose I inspected last time I had it out looked fine but it blew. Seems fixing the pressure in the system found a weak link. Then I replaced it and when I bought the new hose I saw "fuel injection" on the box. However, after installation I went to throw the box away and read "Not recommended for fuel injection." So I had to buy the right hose and install it. I have had that accumulator out more times than I can remember and I smell like gas. I can do that job in my sleep now though.

No idea, but talk to Toby at DPNW. They have a reinforced solution which I bought myself. For a whopping 95 cents or something. But I have big big plans to drop the trans and rebuild the whole inside because of my fear over the 2nd gear roll pin. If you don't plan to do it yourself, take it to your local transmission shop and describe the problem and tell them you'll be providing the necessary parts. Most of those places give free estimates. There are a lot of ancillary parts you'll want to have in stock for them as well - seals, o-rings, flanges or sleeves, etc. While you're in there.... :)

Make sure your hose is rated for 100 PSI or more like SAE J30R9. Most of the auto parts stores are using this type now but it should have the spec inprinted on it.

After 15 years 4915's rear fascia needing repainting. I removed it and had a local body shop do the deed. They wound up painting the black areas too since there were spots that couldn't be rubbed out. Used the 2011 Jeep formula which I thought was too dark when I picked it up but after installation it looks great. They charged $450.

I took my time but couldn't get the fascia to line up with the stainless ... do the fascias shrink over time? A couple of pics above show the problem.

Anyway, I took her for a 20 mile loop to give her some exercise ... she didn't like it. While stopped at a traffic light I noticed a small amount of steam coming from the engine ... crap! ... what now? Turns out the water pump is leaking and I looked in the book and it's been on there about 18 years so I won't bitch about it too much. Ordered the pump and stuff ... look out VOD here I come! I'll put in new plugs, injectors and whatever else I see 'while I'm in there'.

I also ordered the 'Handling by Lotus' badges. I plan to put them below the side vents. I had put Hervey's wide side stripes on a couple of weeks ago which I really like.

I have to go to the hospital tomorrow am to have a cataract removed. When I get through with that the parts will be here and I'll go to work.

Definitely a sticking caliper. Took 2 minutes last night to jack the car up, spun the wheel, and all you heard was a lovely metal on pad sound, and the wheel having no free momentum. Calling in a new one today. I was supposed to use the car this friday night, so really dont have time to pull the caliper and play with it, so just going to swap it out and bleed the system. Quick fix to an annoying problem. Anyone running the 77 Mercury Capri calipers? NAPA by my place has one in their local warehouse that I can have at the store by thursday with no shipping costs. Out of curiosity, are there some commonly found calipers out there that we can use on our cars? I was under the impression you couldn't buy a NOS replacement for the entire caliper assembly (pistons, seals, and all) from DMCH and that the only option was to sand blast, rebuild the ones you have? I'd like to do my fronts, and if I could buy something brand new that is equivalent that would be my preference.

There is a cross reference for calipers from a 77 mercury capri, but i decided against that route for a couple of reasons. For the price of the loaded calipers and shipping, it didnt really make sense to spend that money on something that may be CLOSE to spending the money with a vendor (see my post HERE) (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?2552-John-Hervey-Deloreanautoparts.com-loaded-calipers-Thank-you-John!&p=34319#post34319). It would be better to just get something that I know definitely worked, came with a warranty that I can use immediately, etc...

Found out I need some foam under the edge of the metal bracket that holds the ECUs behind the drivers side seat. Without it I got a banging sound. I had all the back panels off when I went for a drive today. Also found I need to secure my drivers side floor mat. It gets in the way of the clutch and gas pedal when it gets cold.

Replaced a leaky brake master cylinder, found clutch master was leaking too. Replaced clutch master, and detailed bonnet bay. One project always seems to lead to the next with these cars. Now that the brake fluid has stopped flowing I need to re-POR the frame where the fluid puckered the epoxy off the frame.

Does the POR come in a spray can? What's the best way to apply it to the frame?

In spite of the bad idle, I took my D for a quick night drive. Pleased to find that my windshield wipers still work when it started to rain unexpectedly. Also pleased to see that my side lights and turn signals are effing bright with LEDs installed -- and my volt meter looks better and better every time I drive the car now. :-)

Just replaced the "rubber" mat that covers the foam on the back shelf. Autozone had a 6' x 3.5' rubber mat (diamond pattern) that worked perfect for my mat cover. The extra mat will make great fender covers and other protection when working on the cars.

You need 19.5" by 32.5" to cut your mat from. Just put it in with both plywood covers installed and use an exacto to run down the edge of the plywood.

Dont think so... the last time I used it I applied it with a foam brush for the small areas and a 3" foam roller on larger flat surfaces. It settles down and dries pretty smooth. It will need to be mixed as its a two part epoxy coating. Some spray surfaces after it dries with a better matching gray spray paint...

http://www.por15.com/POR-15-Rust-Preventive-Paint/products/1/ Comes in small cans because once you open one the moisture in the air will begin to harden it. This stuff is freakin' awesome. Makes a rock hard shell that just gets harder with moisture. If you do end up with a partial can left over, clean all paint off the lid rim and the can rim and sandwich a couple of ply of Saran wrap between the two. Leave enough slack to depress the wrap down to the level of the liquid, thus minimizing the air in the can. Hammer lid on. I've successfully stored a can like this for months. If you don't wipe the rims, you'll never get them apart!

Just FYI on POR 15 ,I've used thousands of gallons of it in military applications.
It contains isocryinates (sp) bad stuff -USE A RESPIRATOR ! Don't get it on you have plenty of ventilation and depending on which product you use it may need a top coat to keep the UV rays from affecting it.
If you have a can you wish to store and the lid gets stuck on -use a teck screw in the side of the can and remove when you want more POR.
Its wonderful stuff when used properly .

Got in over my head on the weather stripping replacement. Now currently at a work stoppage on the top door seals behind the torsion bar..... Grrr. Cars in the paint shop now getting the facias repainted, decided to go with a standard charcoal type color that closely matches the original, also opted for the flattening agent to give it a more matte look.

Shook my head in stupefaction at the apparent fact that changing the oil and spraying the gunk off the underside of the oil pan has somehow caused the timing chain cover gasket to leak.

Jon... clearly you must have had several people around looking at the car when the leak developed, cause isn't rule number one with the DeLorean that the more people watching you the more problems you'll likely have? Seems to always work that way when you go to try to get it to start after a cruise night or something, lol. Go back and check the leak when no one is around and I bet it will have stopped ;)

Bypassed a wire that inexplicably failed between the tail light board and the driver's side license plate marker (didn't have black/red wire so I used red and Sharpie'd a black stripe down it).

Finally reinstalled tail light and verified all rear-end lighting functions still work.

Drove around for a bit ;)

Haha - no, no people around - what actually happened is I changed the oil and called my wife over. "Look, honey!" I proclaim. "It looks like the leak from the output shafts stopped!"

Next morning, this is what I have. I think that's rule #2 of D ownership. Speak not of your accomplishments, lest they be negated by its vengeful spirit.

Oh, and rule #3 - don't remove the caked on shit. It's probably holding the oil in/engine together.

1258 got a face lift by way of new paint! Turned out damn good for a generic paint code matched visually to the original. I opted for the flattening agent also, I think it adds to the aesthetic of the stainless.

Replaced the hazard flasher relay with an upgraded LED-compatible model, cleaned the tail light circuit assemblies (there were some contact problems), and repaired the engine compartment light switch.

Also poked around for far too long trying to figure out why the damn power antenna doesn't work. :(

I had a day like that once. Then I remembered that I had unplugged some wires that looked like they had "previous owner" written on them. Sure enough all I had to do was re-connect the fused red wire to the door lock breaker. Now I can laugh because I know better, but back then I just felt stupid.

Woohoo!!! I finally got it running after a couple of months of the top of the engine being apart! Put the fascia back in and the lights and just had time to drive around the block. The full tune-up and cleaned injectors made a big difference!

Cant work out how to adjust the rear engine cover cable as you pull it, i need an extra hand to open it everytime. So i have added rubber stopper/spacer onto the rear fascia where the stoppers touch. And it works! :aniclap: enough push so it unlocks and pops when the cable is pulled. Sweet!

I wasn't quite that lucky with my situation, but it actually wasn't much different. Tested the lines running from the antenna relay behind the driver seat and found only one of them was supplying 12v. The other (the line that splices into the white line which runs to the back of the radio) was completely dead. Hiked up the center console a bit and followed the white wire to find that it ended up sitting bare, not hooked up to anything at all. Fantastic.

So I jumpered it to the 12v lead and immediately the antenna raised! (First time I'd ever seen it functioning.) Ran the wire properly through the center console, wired it to the 12v lead on the harness and capped it with a wire nut, put everything back together, and it's working perfectly.

For the first time since I've owned this car, I can actually pick up radio stations OTA. :)

Tried fixing a coolant hose with a cut in it:

http://i42.tinypic.com/2yuip9h.jpg

Sharp-eyed folks will notice that this is the hose with the hot water valve and T connection that goes around the back of the engine. It's in such a difficult position so I can barely reach it to work on it. But I plan to continue the cut all the way around the hose and bring it forward, I think the host has enough slack.

Also, removed my angle drive and confirmed it's a little wonky, going to get a replacement.

The first time I took 4915 out after installing the repainted rear fascia I noticed steam rising from the engine. Turned out to be a leaking water pump.
I set to work, cleared off the top of the engine and replaced the fuel injectors, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor and wires. I did all the VOD work and replaced the water pump which I have to say is a helluva job. Broke a couple of bolts that had to be dealt with. Anyway, I worked on her a few hours each day for two weeks or so until I put her back together ... moment of truth ... I turned the key. Starter cranks the engine ... no joy ... I quickly thought of the places a wire could be unconnected or whatever I could have missed. The cover over the coil was still off and I noticed the coil wire boot seemed a little high. Reached over and pushed it down and tried it again. 4915's heart burst to life. I buttoned her up and went on a 100 mile shakedown and everything was perfect ... I just love it when that happens.:)

I just picked mine up Tuesday night (ok, so technically it wasn't today.) I had a new angle drive put on at a local garage, replaced a leaky water pump hose on the driver's side, and found I was missing one of my rubber gaskets inside my fuel distributor. -Hot Start #2 kit from John Hervey fixed that.

Been lurking on the forums now and then. Life has been busy, but good. I still have the DeLorean, it still runs fairly well, and I'm going to be a dad in June! I shall return with hopefully more interesting DeLorean announcements regarding #10715.

It's a world of difference from when I first bought the thing and the seller couldn't even get it to turn over for me to get it home. Now she sat with the battery connected and fired up immediately after sitting. Always brings a huge smile to my face :)

Fixed dead low beam headlight issue.

Discovered a 'groan' coming from engine at about 3500 to 4k rpms. Sounds to be the AC compressor bearings. Will diagnose this weekend.
