It's a shame I won't get to admire Soundkillrs car again this weekend but at least it's being cared for. Crazy to think thered be parts someone would want to replace on it though.

Absolutely. I'm actually splitting hairs. Just perfecting a few things here and there. Very minor stuff.

I replaced my engine mounts with new ones from DMC in Humble. I ordered them in November, and they finally got in a few days ago.

My otterstat is just there to plug the hole. My fans are now controlled by a Dakota Digital fan module wired into the coolant temp sensor.

Nice job. Did you do that replacement yourself? On a lift or jack stands/ramps? I have the same kit and they've been sitting in a box longer than since last November...

It's a little bit of a pain, but I did it on my creeper using a jack to lift the engine. I left the car on the ground and used jack stands for the entire job.

Also, it's a good idea to replace the M8 bolts that secure the mount to the frame. I bought the four grade 10.9 plated bolts and washers at Oreillys.

Recently on my way to work I noticed my AC wasn't blowing cold, so I made a note to look into it during my lunch break. I opened up the engine bay to take a look at the AC compressor, only to discover that I no longer have an AC belt! Looking around, I found a couple small pieces of it scattered in the engine bay. I recall checking my belt condition and tension sometime last year and it all looked good. So I reached down to check the pulleys, and the bottom pulley was completely seized. Obviously this is what caused the belt to drop.

The original pulley bearings I removed:
51395

I installed the new bearings (and new o-ring) and assembled the pulley bracket but before installing it back in the car, took a bunch of pictures of the assembly. Hopefully these will be a helpful reference to people who do this in the future. You need to put all the little washers and parts in the correct order and orientation or it won't work.

Bauerle Automotive installed the kit.

I'll take a look, do you have a picture of where the best place to route the line would be?

Thank you.

Installed a new fuel filter along with DPI's feed line. The line is very short so it was quite a pain to get aligned properly.

After all that, I finally started my car.

The routing for owners with a SPEC I system is different. The line should orientate directly up the back side of the engine. The install shown above has the longer line for stock exhaust systems with cross over tubes.

They are powdercoated and machined and no problems at all with John. I think there is a $2000 core charge but it wont be applied because he knows it takes time to swap them out. Just had these and new tires and centers added yesterday. Around $850 for the set.

I think the windshield was replaced at some point and the trim was poorly/sloppily attached back and was separated when I got the car. Finally got around to squirting some silicone adhesive behind it and clamped it back up. Ended up using a simple flexible drinking straw which was able to get in between the glass and trim to apply the silicone.

Sure it's not a permanent fix, but it cleaned up the little details of the engine bay nicely for now.

NYS now requires a [somewhat] current safety inspection for registration renewal, so I had to go legit to keep my '80S METL' plate.

Figured out that even though the glove compartment looked closed, it was not latched and the light was on (partially obstructed by the dash mat). IIRC, that incandescent light pulls about .2 amps ...which may explain why the battery was occasionally dead. Now the total drain when the car is off is .01 amps. I suppose I should chase down an LED alternative just in case.

Its a type T-10 bulb. Here is what they look like. Be careful when ordering this bulb because a lot of the T-10's are referred the 6-volt version usually found in flashlights. Google the part number of this bulb and you should be able to find it and that's how I did. I bought them from China and it took about a week from them to get here and I ordered about 10 of them so I had spares which I also installed another DeLorean owners cars. When you get the bulb and if by any chance it does not work flip the connections around on the socket of the two purple wires and then it should work since it is a polarized bulb.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170528/e9877d164cf61b1f1f46c7af62e40df2.jpg

Just installed and these work perfect. Thoughts:
- Unplug the wire to the light socket when working on it. The old light gets HOT
- From the underside, unthread the nut holding the socket to the ring.
- Drop it down under the dash a bit (yup ... working under the dash again)
- Remove the old incandescent bulb and install the new LED bulb
- If it does not light, reverse the wires at the socket (LEDs are polarity sensitive)

Enjoy the new light.

BTW ... my latch part on the box (not the lid) is loose. It appears to be a Phillips head sheet-metal screw. The trouble is that you need a really short screwdriver to get to it. So the next step is a Phillips bit and a socket. Or I may try to replace it with a nut, lockwasher and bolt and be done with it.

I assume you had to reverse the wiring. Is it a simple matter of switching connectors, turning the two conductor connector around, or did you have to cut, reverse, and splice the wires individually? Finally, how did the light output compare to original?

I reversed the wires at the lamp socket. Simply pull off from the back of the lamp socket and reverse. BTW ... to avoid working with the lamp lit (HOT) pull one of the connectors. After installing the LED and before putting the lamp socket back, see it it lights. If not, reverse the connectors.

The light output seems fine. The original didn't light up the glovebox all that much. Both are just enough to see what you want.

I just put an LED bulb in my glovebox today too. Other than the part about working under the console and not being able to see what you're doing, it's pretty straight forward. I too switched the wires after at first not seeing the light bulb come on. They are those original black click on connectors like we have in other places in the car (such as the door light switches right nearby) and all you need to do is pull them off and click them back on. Super easy, no wire cutting or splicing needed. I like the brightness improvement and it doesn't get hot like the old one did.

I also put a new o-ring seal on the oil filler assembly contraption and that, I think, is finally something I can say was actually "easy" on this car, lol. No rusty fittings to contend with!

Anyone know if that metal mesh material inside that oil filler assembly canister needs to be cleaned or replaced at some point in time? I wasn't sure if it had the potential to get dirty or plugged or whatever that a standard type filter might. I suspect the answer is no, but thought I'd ask anyway.

The weather here has been real nice of late and the rain finally took some time off. Had the car out for about 350 miles or so this season so far and it's running like a champ. Gotten to just a couple of car shows as I'm enjoying driving it more than standing beside it while parked.

I'm also trying out showing the car with the doors closed most of the time. It's partly so I can wander around and look at other cars without worrying, but it's also because I think the lines of the car look great and often you don't get that perspective with the doors up. I have often looked at other people's cars and been disappointed when they have the hoods open showing off the engines because you can't really get a nice view of the design of the car with it like that. So the 2017 car show season for me is of the doors closed variety.

I got my solar filter which blocks out pretty much all light to safely stare at that middle aged star that does nothing but make my skin red get righteously blocked out of the Moon which does so much for us.

So my telescope fits in DeLorean, solar glasses fit over my glasses, and now the only thing left is making the DeLorean capable of even making the 6 hour drive. Minimally it needs two things: An alternator (already purchased and waiting for me to pick it up at the DMCMW open house) and to see where my A/C leaks. No way in hell am I going in a hot DeLorean for 6 hours each way without a working A/C. In August. It doesn't leak so fast that it would run out during the whole trip, but I don't want to keep leaking this stuff.

Would you care to take some Night photos of your headlight illumination?

I've seem those on Ebay and was curious about the optics. Do the outboard lights have Hi/Lo capability?

I'll look for your at the Open house too.

Got back from our 300+ mile RT
to the DMCMW open house last night and and discovered the RH (LED) Taillight was out. I gave the lens A couple good whacks and it flashed on / off. This morning I pulled the lens to check the 20+ year old PJ Grady Boards and found a light Oxide layer is beginning to form on all the sockets. Twisting the LED back and forth a few times brought back good contact to the Base and Socket again.

A light coating of dielectric grease will help prevent that by preventing the oxidation. I think the lack of use allows the corrosion to build up more-so than a regular car. Use (electrical current flowing) helps keep things cleaner.

Car was running extremely rough. We thought it might be a flywheel out of balance, but I wanted to check the spark plugs to see if any were fouled (one was), but found one bad boot on an spark plug wire- as in cracked and thus no spark to the plug- which wasn't the same one with the fouled plug. Replaced the boot, as otherwise I would have had to buy an $80 cable kit (HEI distributor). Cost me $4 bucks for a boot on another wire to swap it, and put in new plugs too. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170625/2622c34b7eb0d27095d6b64982d0f124.jpg

At DMCMW it was brought to my attention that my center console was a quarter inch too low. The 4 in my fan speed was under the prndl plate. I figured that the plastic decal simply slipped but that was incorrect.

Someone at the open house told me how to fix it, I didn't get their name because I'm dumb, but it was an easy fix. Take out four screws, remove gear selector stick thing, lift prndl plate, place under center console, and reassemble everything.

Major suspension overhaul. A complete blog post with pictures is here- http://www.8bitdmc.com/2017/06/major-suspension-overhaul/ but the list of items tackled were:

- Sandblasted and powder coated the rear links
- Sandblasted, reinforced, boxed and powder coated the front LCAs
- Replace all 4 factory original Girling shocks with Ed's AVO adjustables (damping position 7, rear ride height at factory because lowering springs were already in place)
- Replace all 10 link bushings, front and rear
- Replace lower ball joints with the new Houston ones
- Replace all 6 sway bar bushings
- Install Ed's front end stiffening brackets
- Clean and fully re-lube upper ball joints

And wow, what a difference. It might as well be a brand new car.

HUGE thanks to Clint (vwdmc16) without whom this would not have been doable, and certainly not in a single 10 hour shot.

After I found my radiator was starting to leak a bit, I moved up my preventative maintenance cooling system upgrade to now. Installed a new radiator, DPNW cooling fans, and stainless coolant bottle. Boy is it a pain in the butt, but it did seem to go a bit better with 2 people. The DPNW fans are really quiet compared to the old ones which is nice. Got the system bled and the fans turned on and off twice while idling. Went for a test drive and made sure the fans came back on after the drive. Everything worked well!

One thing at the end we were having difficulty with was the coolant bottle cap didn't want to go on all the way. It would keep getting stuck on the first tab. You really have to press down hard while turning to get it over. We ended up using the handle end of a hammer to get better, even pressure (not hitting, just something we could press down on better). This was the cap that came with the bottle too. Should it be this hard to get the cap over that first tab?

Nice! Those gates are pretty tightly spaced, looks like even a bit more so than the DMOCO plate was. Hope your shifter is immaculately calibrated!

Cool idea: if you are putting red acrylic underneath, it would be trivial to tap a few white LEDs into the circuit for the cigar lighter illumination. That would be bad ASS.

Lol shifter is not calibrated at all, I didn't want to mess with anything so I just designed to gates to work with the shifter as is. I also decided to mount it with 3m double sided tape cause I only wanted countersunk screws and that wasnt possible with the laser cutter.

Currently I only have opaque red and clear green so no LEDs, but I cut out the letters specifically to put a clear red acrylic with LEDs tapped into the cigar lighter.

I wanted 3mm plate, but I got 1mm instead. I got it done for free so I can't complain. It is sturdier than I thought, but I'd prefer even sturdier since the shifter tends to kick back after I let go. This does put some force on the steel.

I'd be willing to share the DXF for some clear red acrylic and red SMD LEDs lol. Assuming shifters have the same travel distance, you should only have to move the gates to the right location.

started reluctantly still popping and jerking. I was
running possible problems through my mind bad
gas, plug wire, coil, fuel pump when it died in the
middle of a construction zone.....great. Called

I stuck it in expecting the motor to jump to life....
not. Turns out the pump I thought was new was
in fact an old one I replaced on a trip in '06. It
doesn't pay to save old parts. We called my son

Are there any laws in place dictating what we can and can't do with replacing headlights with LEDs? I would think it might refer to some level of "brightness", but I don't know how that is measured. Not in a practical sense anyway.

You'll need to check with State laws for that. The headlight bulbs should also be regulated to be street legal or labeled for off road use only.

I figured there was something in place, state by state, or province by province. I am more interested in understanding how such a law is enforced. I suspect we have some sort of regulation here in Ontario, but from what I see with people driving around, it isn't having any impact. Sure doesn't take any special gift or powers of observation to know that an oncoming car has headlights that are way too bright and blinding the other drivers. Seems like that policing or regulation is left up to the individual, and we know how that goes. "Don't tell me what to do" and "I'll do whatever I please, so there" mentality.

I've asked cops about illegal modifications (underglow, , tints, etc) in the past, and it generally isn't used as a specific reason to stop someone. So, they might use it as a visible excuse to stop you if they suspect you of doing anything criminal such as a dui, but would otherwise leave you alone. Of course it's up to the officer, but most don't seem too concerned with something like that to enforce it.

I was sick of the smell of fuel and leaking fuel pump boot. It seems that the return line leaks fuel up the rubber boot as it is not a clamped seal. It's quite loose where it goes through the rubber boot.
So I fitted Hervey's new style pump. Had a bit of a struggle to get it in and locked down but it's in. Not much fun bending over a full tank of fuel for a couple of hours. I put an extra hose clamp on the new pump seal above the original one as it did not seal that well.
No more leaking fuel when the tank is full and also a much quieter pump.

I have a newer style pump but haven't put it in. As much as I hate the meatgrinder noise my pump makes, my car is one of those where the pump does not always run when the key is turned to Run. But once it is turned to CRANK/START then the pump gets turned on.

Rumor is that in some cars the RPM relay doesn't consistently engage when the key is put into RUN but the spike from engaging the starter starts the RMP relay. So I use the noise to let me know the status and adjust my starting sequence to allow it to pressurize first. That all said, this is one of those things that I keep thinking there must be a better way.

There is, its called get a DM-eng Solid state RPM relay. I've been using one since DCS Gettysburg.

Your correct some cars don't always prime (running the pump for 1 second). What fires the RPM relay is an ignition pulse. The OEM RPM relay never had a design to prime so I think it's that some RPM relays are more sensitive to seeing that ignition pulse when the key is turned to on.

My solid state relay is designed to prime the pump when it gets power from the key circuit. After that it keeps the pump running via ignition pulses.

I was sick of the smell of fuel and leaking fuel pump boot. It seems that the return line leaks fuel up the rubber boot as it is not a clamped seal. It's quite loose where it goes through the rubber boot.

I would reccomend getting the correct GM plug for the pump. I didn't care for the one he provided. Here is my pump installed:

This is the cheapest price I've seen for the pump harness.

Started to smell fuel when I got home one day and noticed a decent leak at the hard line to the rear external fuel filter so just installed a new one from DMCH. Tightened as hard as I could and still leaked so ended up using a small amount of teflon tape on both connections at the L joint piece and I think that did it. Any ideas how old this filter is? Couldn't find a date on it.

That looks like an original fuel filter from the dealer. An original part. I usually put Teflon tape on the bottom fitting, but not of the top one. Do you use two washers on the top banjo bolt?

Ya I was wondering if it was original too. Has "Germany" stamped on the other side. I used teflon on only the bottom L piece for both where the hard line connects and then where it screws into the bottom of the filter. Couldn't get the hard line to seal otherwise. And ya I used just the two washers for the top banjo bolt, definitely no tape there!

I suspect I have a problem with my air conditioning. When I run the car and turn the air conditioning switch to the first position (Max, with the fan turned on) the cooling fans and the conditioner operate but only for about 5 seconds then shut down. They start again after another 5 seconds and I can hear the click of the solenoid from behind the passenger’s seat.

This intermittent operation can’t be normal.

Any thoughts, help or advice welcome.

Cycling is normal but 5 seconds seems a bit short. With original wiring, the AC fans run when the AC clutch is engaged. Some aftermarket fan controllers keep the fans running continuously as long as the AC is switched on. There's also a wiring modification you can make to force fans to run when the mode swrich is selected to Max or Norm regardless if the AC clutch is engaged.

Couple questions:
1) Is the compressor cycling at the same rate as the fans?
If so, the AC refrigerant may be low
2) When you jumper the fans at the otterstat (AC off), do the fans run normal?
If not so, it could be the breaker you hear cycling/clicking. Why would be a different discussion.

Cycling is normal but 5 seconds seems a bit short. .

Short cycling is normal at cooler temperature/lower fan speed/higher engine speed. It's really hard to generalize. The cycling is caused by the low pressure switch monitoring low side pressure, nothing else. The pressure depends on how much heat is being removed by the condenser.

Longest cycle is blower on full speed with engine idling on a 90 degree day. Shortest would be engine at driving RPM (1800+), blower on low, outside temp cooler (say 70 or below).

The only way to really see what is going on is a set of gauges and a temperature chart.

Hey I get to post one! Today I replaced my fuel pump with one of the DMCH all-in-one units. The one in the car (Bosch unit that I installed in 1998) was still working, but the rubber boot was turning into mush and the upper pump cover was cracked. Since the gasoline isn't getting any better around here, I decided it was time. I was also still running the orange hoses that we've seen failing. The inside of the tank was perfect other than the beginnings of some rubber residue from the failing boot. This to show that actually driving the cars rather than parking them for years, is much better for the car.

Funny thing - I believe that I actually installed the Bosch fuel pump in the parking lot of the Columbus Warehouse at the first open house (part of the first Cincinnati DCS) after DMC Houston bought out Kapac. I must have done the hoses later, it was an emergency repair at the time and I think the only thing I changed in the parking lot was the pump.

Ouch - that was 20 years ago!!

Also flushed the brake system today. I highly recommend this brake pressure bleeder - no affiliation, just a good product:

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-schwaben-parts/3-liter-european-pressure-brake-bleeder/007237sch01a/

I just completed rebuilding/replacing my brake system, those rear flex brake lines where the worst part of replacing parts. I also had to replace the front wheel bearings as to get the front rotors off took a lot of 'caveman' abilities with a large hammer, they were too loose after this activity, so new ones were installed.

I couldn't get the bearings out of the hub, so I took to a local machine shop and had them press 'em out of the hub, took a little heat also.

Brake fluid? I think the implication is that you shouldn't leave a pint of fluid in the container and then pump it into the car later. Brake fluid absorbs moisture etc etc. Just empty it after use and fill it the next time from a sealed bottle. I do clear the line out though.

Beautiful night last night and had the car out for a nice drive. Really sunny out too and this was when it was around 7:30 or 8 pm and the sun was low. With a low sun like that you realize how limited the coverage is from our sunvisors.

Was curious... has anyone ever looked into designing a sunvisor that you could pivot out to cover part of the side window glass when the sun is coming at you from the side and not the front?

nkemp
07-19-2017, 08:55 AM
Something about the D and the roads I drive have me often blocking the sun from the driver's window with my hands or repositioning my body to avoid the sun. Sometimes you can twist the baseball cap just right. But a better alternative I've pondered is putting window tint on the top of the driver's door window (and a matching one on the passenger window) like the sun tint at the top of the windshield.

Nope, cranks but no fire. Smells of gas and I can hear the meat grinder fuel pump working. Checked connectors including ICU but no happiness. Battery is strong/ Voltages seem right.

What is the ignition bypass relay?

DMC5180

it sits just to the left of the Ballast resistor. You have an Early VIN, but you should have one.

It's purpose is provide Full battery voltage to the coil while cranking only, then the Ballast resistor takes over suppling about 8V to the Coil for norm running.

You've checked all the connections on the Resistor?

One other possibility, pull a plug wire and borrow a spare plug from another source (lawn mower, chain saw, etc) and check for spark. If you do get spark, Its possible all that previous no start cranking may have flooded the engine. The only way to clear it is to floor while cranking. You should clear and at least try to fire eventually. This assumes spark is present.

It started but I'm not sure where the problem is.... but it is narrowed down to a particular part.

Instead of restful sleep last night I spent the night troubleshooting in my mind. Today I pulled the distributor sensor connector to measure the sensor resistance (Hervey indicates it should be about 550 Ohms). Some of my first readings were in the M-Ohm range. Much higher than the 550 I was looking for.

Time to jiggle some wires and yes, the resistance dropped into the 400 Ohm range. When I turned the key after that, it started in milliseconds.

So next I tried to get a mega-Ohm reading again but with no luck. Fixed? Probably not.

And the car wonders why I have trust issues with it.

Narrowed the no start issue to where the tachometer wire attaches at the distributor. I REALLY DON'T WANT TO GO INTO THE VOD AGAIN! Sometimes I think I should install wingnuts to make it easier.

Using a long screwdriver and poking the connector at the distributor I could get the circuit to open and then close. At some point it stayed closed. I suspect corrosion but it could be a bad wire or connector. If it is corrosion, the poking eventually caused it to clear... for now. Only way to know for sure is to remove the connector at the distributor. And best I can tell, I need to remove the intake manifold to get to the screw holding the connector in.

My firewall plug is tight.. very tight. Does yours have the spring retaining clip? It does a great job of keeping them together and kinda a pain to get them apart.

I suspect the tachometer wire connector at the distributor because of the flakey resistance readings across the coil when I jiggle and poke the connector at the distributor.

BTW ... these wires are $144 +SH&H from DMCH.

I'm probably going to clean my frame but it's just going to get dirty again because I drive this car in the rain and all kinds of other conditions but I haven't driven it in the snow which I doubt I will. You have a lower and upper speedo cable arrangement still, or have you gone to a one-piece speedo cable?

I suspect the Lambda counter is not a precision part. 1% error applied to 30,000 miles is 300 miles. I suspect it is not a precision part. For all we know, it could have a 5% error or more.

I was kinda thinking the same thing, currently at 30,040 and still no light. I'm not worried about it, I was thinking of unplugging it anyway when it did come on. O2 sensor was replaced last year. I was just thinking it would be neat to see and to know that it is/was working.

Could a lack of the light coming on also mean that the car actually has 130,000 miles instead of 30,000? As in the light would have come on at 30K, 60K, 90K, 120K, etc? I would hope not! I don't think so though, the title the PO had when he bought it back in 1987 said 11,XXX. It had also sat 10-15 years before 2011. The shop that worked on it to bring it back to life and that I have taken it too as well has never indicated it has that many (which I think they would). Everything else is in too good of shape to have that many, no cracks in dash or binnacle, original leather, carpets, etc.

Technically possible, but unlikely. The lambda counter must be reset to Zero once the counter has tripped the switch.
So it would depend on who changed the O2 sensor. They could have reset the lambda to coincide with the sensor change. Only a DMC service facility would even know that needed to be done. Unless, the PO did it or told the shop that changed it, to reset the counter.

The only way to truly tell where the counter is at, is to unbolt it from the bracket. On the backside is a window with numbers. 00 to 99. (%) if it reads 97-98 you are getting close to tripping it. If its a low number, someone has likely reset it.

In the old days ... like DeLorean vintage, in order to keep the car running per spec, they used a 30,000 mile life for the oxygen sensor. So the Lambda counter counted to 30,000 miles and was just a hint that the oxygen sensor might be bad and it should be replaced. In reality the oxygen sensor may have gone out of spec at 25,000 or it may last until 40,000 miles. You can't tell by the lambda light. Modern cars monitor the sensors directly to determine if they are working within spec.

The fact that your Lambda has not come on is suspicious but has nothing to do with the oxygen sensor. If you've replaced the oxygen sensor in the last 30,000 miles then it should be good. In your case, no Lambda light could be a bad labda counter unit/switch/connection/ground or the bulb could be bad. If the lambda light is changed to LED it could be installed in reverse polarity and thus would not light even if there was a 12Vdc signal to it.

Christian Dietrich

I believe it is the original angle drive. What he means i believe is if your system i a 1 piece worm gear from the angle drive to the speedo head or original 2 piece that meets at the Lamba counter at the base of the steering column with a black wire that comes out of it and goes to the speedometer and turns on the Lambda light after the counter reaches 100 or 30000 miles.. You're right. I meant that if you have a one-piece speedo cable (like I do now after changing out constantly failing components) it doesn't go through the lambda counter and so it never turns the service counter numbers and will never turn your lambda light on.

In addition to the idea that an LED replacement bulb plugged in backwards might be the problem, it could just be that the normal style light bulb is burnt out. That light doesn't come on during the start-up sequence so you wouldn't really have any way of knowing whether the bulb is good or not.

probably Oxidation of the bulb contacts or twist lock socket to PCB. It's hard to imagine a bulb that never sees regular use to be burned out.

If you want to test the circuit and check the bulb, unplug the counter. Jumper the two harness connector terminals. Use a wire or paper clip. turn key On. look for light. If no light, use a DVM and test the green wire for power. if that is good, check the other wire for continuity to ground ( via the bulb)

So I've pulled my speedometer to take some measurements for a GPS upgrade project that I've wanted to do for some time now. I'm not sure if it will ever get done, but I'm going to try. In the meantime I got tired of looking at the blank space in the dash while driving, so I threw the old HUD unit in that location. It fits pretty snug. It can be 'reversed', or should I say 'righted' so that it reads face on.

Part of this project also included upgrading all the dash lights (except battery) to LED. Love the difference!!

Speaking of GPS headsup displays ... Years ago I got this one and love it: https://www.amazon.com/Head-Up-Display-Speedometer-quick-installation/dp/B005X4QCAA/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1501243864&sr=8-5&keywords=gps+heads+up

It is the best upgrade to the car I've made. My speedo is wacko regardless of the components replaced. None-the-less the oem speedometer is awkward to see and the referenced GPS puts a nice display off to the left of the windshield. BTW... there are also the $35'ish heads-up displays available and I have one and never use it. Very dim image and not usable in the daylight. I suppose it could be used in direct view mode positioned on the dash.

My rubber maze wasn't cracked, but the nubs on the back had sheared off and the maze was completely out of alignment. The plastic pin that holds the spring mounted pets together was also broken. My D would periodically die out of the clear blue. It would go silent and I'd coast to the shoulder. Got many a ride home on the flatbed. Mysteriously, it would start later. It is hard to diagnose something that fixes itself. Turned out that it was the inertia switch.

I replaced it with a later model inertia switch from a Mustang. Used the old inertia switch (gutted) to make a connector to the original harness so that I could go back to the OEM (Lucas?) inertia switch should I want to...but not sure why I would. No more flatbed rides.

For the 4, 194 bulbs, i used a slightly large 194 that holds 19 led per bulb for a total of 76 LEDs that shine down. the bad part is I actually had to modify my cluster to get them to fit carefully using a Dremel tool. I was afraid the conventional 5 LED per bulb 194's weren't going to be bright enough. I'm glad with all the lighting it's not glaring at all to drive at night. Thanks! I originally wanted "SAE 304", but the state rejected it for some reason... :confused0:

Maybe someone already had that plate?

No, The DMV office actually approved "SAE 304" while I was there paying for it, and they issued me the paperwork too. Then I got a letter in the mail stating it was not approved. My guess was that "SAE", which stands for Society of Automotive Engineers, didn't jive with their rules somehow...

my jbweld epoxy fix for the right hand exhaust heat shield bracket failed on me today. so i just drilled to 1/4" holes and put some stainless bolts in to keep it from making the god awful racket when rattling around. thankfully this was the only issue as it sounded like rod knock before i figured out what the noise was.

Nice dude. I need to do the same at some point. Not much eyebrowing, but you can see a little from the proper angles.

Mine had it pretty good when my car was abandoned all them years ago in the California sun. Tonight im going to start the other side! Im surprised im saying this but im looking forward to seeing your engine swap! I was telling Jenny last night and showing her the pics of your parts. Even though i would mod a PRV over a swap, at least the DeLorean is still going and not rotting in a corn field. Hell it took awhile for me to get over painted versions lol. Keep up the good work buddy boy!

Thanks. I am looking forward to doing the swap, but I am not looking forward to paying for it, lol. It's going to be VERY extensive, I'll be completely rebuilding the LS (with an upgraded cam of course), upgrading the brakes, the suspension, etc, etc.

I mean hell it only took me seven years just to get my car back on the road lmao

I changed my wiper blades to Bosch ICON 20As just for the better looks. I have them on all my cars and they look so much better not seeing that frame of the old style blades. Passenger side I had to push the washer nozzle down to install the new blade but then push it back and all is fine.

Have not tested them working yet. Heck I rarely drive in the rain.

I've changed my tires more than I've changed my wiper blades.

I think I've changed my stereo more than I've changed my wiper blades, too.

Model T driving class? gas - check. Spark set to Retard - check. Ignition -ON, Hand crank - check. Got a love the 2 speed transmission. While uniquely fun and interesting for a 100 year old car, I'd Prefer a Model S or X driving class. [emoji12]

People put a towel over the paint then clamped down on it also they use a towel with a piece of 2 by 4 on top of that as not to scratch the paint. You just have to remove the grill and the headlight bulbs and then do the same thing I did.

I finished my 131 mile stress test on myself and the new fuel pump. Only issue was realizing on the interstate that I had bumped and folded the passenger mirror in while working on the car.

Took the D on a local errand. I cleaned the oil on the garage floor and pulled the D in. Turns out my drivers side rear shock is leaking oil. I had bought anyway some NOS rear shocks to replace my Hervey easy riders. Guess I can put off changing those shocks now.

Got the bad shock replaced. I installed the new shock first. Compressed the spring enough so I could slip it over the shock and slip the locking rings onto the spring cup. That defiantly was easier than installing the whole thing at once. Just have to find the torque spec for the lower bolt and grind and old 15 mm open end wrench down so I can lock the shocks top two nuts.
